What better way to kick off a new Emergency forum than to pay tribute to one of the shows that made the profession so popular? Here's a few pics of some of my favorite models like this pair from Code 3 - ![]() Or the engine and squad from Universal / LJN - ![]() a couple of Squads from Dinky and HW - ![]() or this MB pre pro of the E! Squad - ![]() It was slated to be part of the "Stars Cars" but the line was dropped mid run ![]() ![]() EMERGENCY! was one of the shows that helped lead me toward my career as a child. Now that I'm a full-grown child I can't get enough of the E51! models : ) How about you? |

Here are my pair of "Emergency" models from LJN. It was (and still is) a program I enjoyed and made me take a long thought about being a paramedic. Came close as I was certified as an EMT in 1980 and served on the squad in Bowbells, ND for a number of years. While I had visions of being a paramedic, I had a "higher calling" but was able to sere as an EMT and pastor in my first call. Medical issues forced me to "retire" from the EMT part but now am chaplain for the local squad and fire dept. Not sure I have every mentioned it, Sammy, but I was on the volunteer fire dept. for a few years back home.

Why are the Code 3 E! rigs going for $250 or more, which is well out of my price range? What did these originally retail for? The whole Emergency! diecast line from LJN, the Dinky (I know I'd likely not be able to afford it complete with Gage, Desoto, and the air tanks, but it would be great if I could) are on my list. Surprisingly, LJN's and Dinky's (missing the items listed, sadly) are the cheapest to get, at about $20 or less, when the others, made nearly 30 years later, are much more costly. I found Emergency! about a year ago. They didn't slack on accuracy, as many modern Fire/EMS shows do. It is iconic, and very important to the history of EMS. Can Third Watch, Trauma, and Chicago Fire say the same thing? Nope. Edited by cody6268, Jul 29 2014, 08:29 PM.

the Code 3 Emergency! models go for what people are willing to pay for them. So if some one has one to sell, they want to get top dollar for it. I also believe that the E! models appealed to more then just the Code 3 or even general fire apparatus collectors circles. Add to the fact they where limited edition (don't recall the run number) and C3 is now out of business. I don't recall what they went for when initially released in 2001, but want to say about $40.00 each ( I may be off though). I have thought many times with Amercom releasing all these copy's of Code 3 S51, and either E51 would be good choices for many a collector. |

There were 10,000 of the Crown Pumper produced. There were 20,000 of the Dodge Rescue truck. There were 15,000 of the Ward LaFrance pumper. There were 5,000 of the Seagrave Custom Pumper LA 51 Lime Green. Edited by 911diecast, Jul 29 2014, 10:22 PM.

I drove to school (Jr. College) for a while right by the on-screen "Station 51" used for the shots of the squad and engine leaving the "barn" on a run (LA County Station 127 served that role, at least for a while). What field of study might I have been pursuing? Fire Science, of course. |

That Dodge, I think was the one in the pilot "The Wedsworth-Townsend Act". I don't think it was Squad 51, I think it was a different unit. Squad 51 was a 1972 Dodge D-300. The only differences between it and the actual LA County Paramedic Rescue Squads at the time was the white light on the top of the Federal Twinsonic light bar (it was in the LA County Shop blueprints for Rescue Squads, but they never put them on the actual units), and it was not equipped with a siren, the siren tones were dubbed in. I kinda remember it more as a ? 1 ton p/u chassis ( I am getting older ,memory ? ) I just googled it the truck through the series was a 72 Dodge D300 dually p/u chassis similar to the Code 3 pic at top of thread ..... , yoh hoo my memory still works , the heavier chassis from the pilot is pretty cool on its own Edited by W Gee, Aug 1 2014, 09:16 PM.

Great new forum here, I just realized it was here today, glad to see so many familiar names posting too. All I have is a couple of the LJN's, still need get others, but like Cody mentioned, they often get beyond reach in prices, but have discovered early on that we're not only competing against those who collect emergency type vehicles, but also the countless other fans of all things "Emergency" (TV show) related, which probably includes most of us who collect emergency type models. A great start of the forum showing models of one of my all time favorite TV shows.... some of my best memories. |
