Car of the Day for August 1, 2014 is the Hot Wheels 1997 Ford Escort Cosworth Rallye

The Ford Escort RS Cosworth was a sports derivative and rally homologation special of the fifth generation European Ford Escort. It was designed to qualify as a Group A car for the World Rally Championship, in which it competed between 1993 and 1998.

It was available as a road car from 1992–96 in very limited numbers. It was instantly recognisable due to its large "whale tail" rear spoiler.

The main selling point was the Cosworth YBT engine, a highly tunable turbocharged 2-litre engine which had an output of 220 PS (162 kW; 217 hp) in standard trim.

Tuning companies have achieved power outputs of even over 1,000 hp. It was also widely acknowledged to have excellent handling.

Great choice, I absolutely love this casting. Those rally lights are just awesome.

Muscle Car
This is a neat rally car - a very nicely made one from Hot Wheels with the rally lights and roof top spoiler. I have a policia version with the spoiler replaced by a light bar - think it was part of a five pack.

New casting? Quick! Take it apart!
Good casting I missed out on for the most part---I just wasn't into a broad collecting routine at the time of this car. I regret that now, but then I think, how many more hundreds of cars would I have to file away if I did collect more castings back then??
