Greetings gang,

As I mentioned in my Apparatus Bay Intro....I write a bi-monthly column in a Magazine called "Canadian Paramedicine", my column is called "Diecast Dispatch", it features themed articles with ambulances from my personal collection, or it features a particular Diecast Manufacturer and their history.

For June / July 2014, I featured the ambulances and hitory of Oxford Diecast.

As I write new articles, I'll post them here for your interest.

Let's get started.......

Diecast Dispatch June / July 2014
Oxford Diecast Limited

Not too much is known about this English diecast manufacturer other than it got its start in 1993 Oxford Diecast produces some very highly detailed vehicles in numerous scales; 1:148 or N scale, 1:87 or HO scale, 1:76 or OO scale, 1:43 or O scale and some non-scale examples.

The company has offices in UK and HK and run their own factory in China; Oxford Diecast is a leading manufacturer that supplies diecast vehicles and various collectibles to the promotional, retail and gifts markets as well as to their own club members. The Collectors Club got its start in 1996 and publishes a monthly newsletter called The Globe; they also produce an annual publication called The Oxford Review which highlights events and model releases for the year being reviewed. This club has 3 collecting levels and allows club members chances at Club Member only exclusive models.

The variety of vehicles is quite amazing and covers all the decades starting from the 1920s right up until the cars, trucks and aircraft of today. Primarily starting with European vehicles, Oxford expanded its line to include some North American styles as well.

Now keeping in touch with the purpose of this column, Oxford Diecast offer a number of English styled Ambulances in various scales. I happen to be the proud owner of most of their Ambulance offerings. Each one is crafted after an actual vehicle that was utilized in Ambulance service throughout England, Ireland and Scotland, and each model is described in detail on their website with a little history information on the vehicle and its livery.

With offerings in N, OO and O scale, Oxford offers the diecast Ambulance collectibles enthusiast with a wide range of unique European Ambulances that no one else produces.

They unfortunately are not widely available in North America, but they can be acquired through authorized dealers and distributors or through online auction sites. You can also visit the Oxford Diecast website, http://www.oxforddiecast.co.uk sign-up as a member and order directly from the company itself.

Thanks for reading; I hope you enjoyed this profile of another great diecast Ambulance producer who offers something a little different to the collectibles enthusiast.

Their availability is sparse. The place I get much of my diecast from, 3000 Toys only carries the military models. Awesome Diecast sells them, but their shipping is actually the most expensive I've seen for a single small item from a company in the US. I think the best prices are from sellers based in the UK.

I think Oxford's detail/price ratio is great, as most are $20 or less.

I have a long Oxford list including most of the ones shown here.

Do you have the Wales and London Sprinters?

Enjoyed the review Glen. Someday I hope to collect some examples, or maybe lots, of the smaller Oxford offerings, they sure look nice, and have an exciting variety.

A member here at the Garage, vadim, is toy dealer and posted a while back that he was willing to order Oxford models for collectors here at the Garage. I got the 1/87th Edsel from him - price was more than fair and the postage was at basically at cost. You can pm him a list of what you are interested in, he orders it and lets you know when it comes in.

I am in the UK and do come across the Oxford stuff so if there is anything anyone needs, let me know and I will see if I can help. May not be able to do anything straight away but there are a few toy fairs here which carry them and I have a friend in the collectors club. I am not interested in profit and would only charge cost for models and shipping.

Thanks for sharing your article here Glen. I enjoy collecting the Oxford models too as they have great detail. I get most of mine direct from Oxford, if you join the Oxford collectors club you get discount purchase prices, newsletters, special promos and a free holiday model each year. I hope this year they make the holiday model out of an emergency vehicle.

thanks again for sharing.
