The Ahrens-Fox Fire Engine Company is an Ohio based fire truck manufacturer. The company was founded in 1910 by John P Ahrens and Charles H Fox and built its first motorized fire engine in 1911. By the end of the following year production of horse-drawn fire apparatus ceased completely. Since then, over 1500 pieces of fire apparatus were built until 1977.

During the year 1913 only, Ahrens-Fox built a 44 HP (following then-actual rating practice) automobile. Like at rival American LaFrance, the idea was to sell these cars to bigger fire brigades as car of duty for their chiefs. Also like at ALF, it was not successful for Ahrens-Fox either, although for Ahrens-Fox the results were more consequently; there was only one model, a huge six-cylinder called the E-C Battalion Roadster. It was guaranteed to go faster than 50 MPH, and featured a four speed gearbox. A small pickup bed was added for some items that were thought to be useful for the head of a fire brigade, and which were included in the base price. Only six of this roadster-pickups were built during 1913; it seems they all stayed in Cincinnati. Then, Ahrens-Fox abandoned the idea and never returned to it.

In 1891 Ahrens merged with three other manufacturers to become the American Fire Engine Company which in 1903 merged with International Fire Engine Company to become the American LaFrance Fire Engine Company. Ahrens Mfg. broke from American LaFrance in 1904 and in 1910 became the Ahrens-Fox Fire Engine Company. Ahrens Fox was recognized as the 'Rolls Royce" of fire trucks, reflecting not only its expense but also it quality. Many Ahrens Fox pumpers are still operational today, some 75 years or so after they were built. Few fire apparatus can match that.

There were several styles of Ahrens Fox apparatus over the years, but without question, the most beautiful and unique would be those with the chrome ball. The last Ahrens-Fox apparatus were predecessors to the Mack C apparatus.

One of a nice line of Fire Engines made by High Speed and sold both as Grell and as Readers Digest promos.

Very nice. Most are familiar with the vintage Ahrens Fox fire engine in the Hot Wheels line. It was nice to see High Speed do this mid '50's version in their series of fire engines as a promo item through Reader's Digest books. This one is probably my favorite of the series -

This is pretty cool. One of my general collecting 'rules' is that a vehicle can't have a vacant windshield space, but if I ever found this one, I'd create a simple windshield with some clear plastic packaging, and welcome it to my collection.

Support your local demo derby.

This is a narrow focus in the hobby that is sorely missing right now. With High Speed out of business and with Code 3 no more we have no one left making emergency fire trucks for collectors.
