Still not quite sure how I feel about the way this chassis looks with the USFS standard pump body, but it's too late to wonder about that. Didn't talk to the engineer...he was busy letting kids climb up in the cab and blow the horns and sirens...but this is one of the "new look" US Forest Service engines soon to appear in your local woods.

Freightliner chassis...

I know Maisto did a USFS engine ages ago on their generic Asian truck.

I'd like to see one, just not on the MBX Workstar. The USFS also uses Tatras and Unimogs, which would also be a unique choice.

The local fire department has a Freightliner structural rig.

Though pricey and a little too big, I'd like First Gear to do these, or Greenlight, as I'd likely be able to afford one from them.

Hmm, I would like to see one of those in my "local" woods, Blair. As Greenligght expands their truck offerings I could see them doing something like this down the road.

DMET, I agree whole-heartedly with Unimog wildland fire models. We need them in 3-inch scale. I have a bunch from Solido/Verem, Del Prado, and a few others, but what's lacking is a certifiable small diecast version. I have a Kibri HO-scale plastic kit of a German Unimog forest fire engine which I haven't built yet....but that's the closest thing aside from the Matchbox "rescue" Unimog snowplow (and I think there was another "rescue" Unimog from Matchbox a few decades ago, too?)

Cody, the Tatras and Unimogs the US Govt has are Bureau of Land Management rigs (BLM). To my knowledge, the Forest Service doesn't have any. I'm still looking for a reasonable facsimile of a Tatra chassis that looks like the ones built by ATC (American Truck Company)...

One of their "Wildland Ultra" engine tankers for BLM (not my photo)
...for my own custom. I definitely agree with you that they would be awesome to have in any scale diecast.

Oh, by the way, here's a BLM engine with a Freightliner 2-door chassis like the USFS one above, built by BME.

And that Maisto USFS engine was included in two different 5-packs of Maisto USFS vehicles. They're pretty cool. If I can round up photos of all the rigs in those two sets I'll post them here (if somebody else doesn't beat me to it....)

How silly of me....I forgot that Siku have a Unimog that isn't clearly wildland fire, yet certainly fits that bill in my imagination, if not in actual design; and Wiking has released a couple different versions of Unimog forest fire trucks...same vehicle but different liveries.

I intend to show off a few more of my collection of wildland fire models sometime soon here.

Meanwhile, a National Guard C-130 airtanker with the MAFFS (Modular Airborne Fire Fighting System) installed just flew over my house on it's way to one of the Oregon fires burning not too far west of me. Very very red sunset last night from all the smoke over that way.....

And an actual BLM 'mog somewhere in the west....(I'm guessing Carson City, NV)
