I collect a lot of rescue vehicles from all brands. So I sincerely hope I don't offend anyone when I ask: What the heck does Mattel think they're doing with these things lately? Are they diecast or lollipops? Edited by Dragnet_Supporter, Aug 23 2014, 03:31 PM.

Featurewise, with the removable shell, it's a great casting. But, when compared to the old Chevy, it doesn't hold a candle to it, as Rapid Response has no realism. The old Chevy is a casting worth tracking down with the detailed interior and opening rear doors. t Edited by cody6268, Aug 23 2014, 04:33 PM.

Thanks Brian, but no I've managed to snag a few of them in green already. Thanks for looking out for me though. The new white one has proved to be elusive thus far. Glen |

I guess the only reason Mattel isn't in trouble with the Consumer Products Safety Division (or whatever they're called) for making toys that look edible, is that they're too big to easily go down a toddler's throat. Glad Keith was able to get you one of the Rescue Ranger "retools", Glen....when last I saw this one I couldn't bring myself to buy it. As to the other one, I haven't seen it yet...so I'll keep an eye out for you, too. |

That's a good one. Never really thought about kids trying to eat them because they look like candy. I personally believe most kids would know the difference. But wait until an angry parent sees one go toward their kids mouth and it wouldn't surprise me to see Mattel getting filed with a lawsuit. |

Blair, I'm not very impressed with the Rescue Duty Truck, but in order to keep up with the set (I already have the white and blue versions), I need the TH Green version to complete the series thus far. Same thing goes for the Rapid Response, I already have the other 7 versions, so this latest one will perpetuate the set. .....and they do have an underlying ambulance or EMS theme so....... Glen |

I understand all too well about being a completist. For a number of years, I grabbed every BWF car I found to keep up. And there have been some crazy fantasy cars thrown into that mix as well. |

Thank-you Keith for the info on the package, and for stalking me on Youtube ![]() The Award from IDI was very humbling. I do what I do, not for public recognition or award, but for the betterment of those I serve, hoping I can make a positive difference for them, and their families, in the worst moments of their lives. The recognition was very appreciated as often Paramedic Services don't get the glory or recognition like PD or FD, but then again, we don't go looking for it either. I've never watched the video until just before this post. I should have ditched the glasses for the acceptance My presenter, MPP (Member of Provincial Parliament) Ms. Cheri DiNovo, is a huge Paramedic Champion, she tabled 2 private members bills in Parliament to include CISD & PTSD as official diagnosis for Paramedics and to have the WSIB (workplace safety & insurance board) Act changed to extend these benefits to Paramedics with these diagnosis, she's also stood behind a Provincial Paramedic Bravery Award which was just proclaimed earlier this year. She's a fantastic person, and I was pleasantly surprised that she was my presenter. Stay well Keith, and thank again !!!! Glen |

Glen, You rarely hear of paramedics getting the glory. And definitely seems like a profession that most would do because of a desire from their inner core being, rather than exterior/political motivations. That's what made me feel proud of you when watching the video--though I don't really know you personally. |

Thank-you, 25 year of doing what I love for a profession, I'd never change a minute of it. As a stand alone profession, Paramedicine came into its true being in the mid 70's and has grown exponentially. In most parts of Canada, Paramedics are a separate service from the Fire Dept. which is quite the contrast from a lot of the US states, and the level of training is exceptional. I know there are any different service models in the US (private, FD run, Hospital run etc), but up here, a lot of the service is either run by a local Municipality, Region or Province. Alberta, Nova Scotia and Quebec are all Provincially run, with a very scattered private services. In Ontario, where I live, we are all Municipal or Regionally run. We are the Medical authority on calls, and in Ontario, most of our Fire services act just as a back-up with only basic first-aid and CPR training. Some FF's have more advanced training, but because they are not Paramedics, they can't practice to that level. In Ontario, a Paramedic is defined as a person under the employ of an Ambulance Service. True, the recognition of our profession is often subdued, we don't have the man-power or financial resources of the IAFF, or the Police Associations, we don't have a special interest group looking after our political interests in our halls of government either. Rarely are our LODD' even mentioned in the media, and if they are, there's certainly not the follow-up or story development like what FD and PD receives, but ironically, on a yearly average more Paramedic LODD's are recorded in the books. - sad really, we don't even have a National monument to recognize those who have lost their live in the Line of Duty. We're working to change that !!!!! Thanks for the support sir, remember, we may not always be around for the media interviews, or the "glory shots", but Ontario's Paramedics quietly go about their business 24 hours / day, 7 days / week, 365 days / year doing what we do best. Helping our fellow citizens in their time of need. Glen |

Congrats on the award, Glen! You very much deserve it for your hard work, keep it up! I have an ambulance station very close to my house, so I hear the ambulances coming and going very often...makes me appreciate their work even more! Don't forget that the British Columbia Ambulance Service is also provincially run...

Glen, Congrats my friend!! Well deserved for a man who has given way more then 100% to the field of EMS, and and his community in general. Like many in public safety I am sure more times then not. You have humbly gone about your profession and have done it for your self and others never once looking for anything special in return. In fact if not for one fellow board member none of us would have ever known. Few people on a regular biases truly know what it is that the paramedics do and can do, and seldom realize how much they depend on this faceless, nameless service. Once again it is great to see you get this recognition. |

How could I forget BCAS, I've visited one of their dispatch Centres and travelled to Kimberley BC a few years back to celebrate the lives of 2 colleagues, Paramedic Kim Weitzel and Shawn Currier who died in the line of Duty while attending to a collapsed mining official who also died of exposure to deadly gas eminating from an old decommissioned mine. The entire town of Kimberley BC lined the route as we marched to the memorial as a united EMS Honour Guard. The only sound heard were the boots hitting the ground of the hundreds of Paramedics who came to march in their honour. ...and the BC Paramedics sure earned their money today with the Tour Bus Roll-over - 19 ambulances and 6 Med-Evac Helicopters Glen |

Believe it or not, that actually happened in the 90's, so the story goes. When they had that "Fast Food" series in the 90's, a car called the "Sweet Stocker" was pulled from store shelves mid-run, as parents or at least one parent complained that their child chipped a tooth trying to eat the car, thinking it was candy. I know when I was a kid, I never did anything that stupid, but I did think it was a scratch-n-sniff car. lol The car in question:

Thanks Keith for making that awards announcement known to all of us, and thanks, Glen, for your continuing service to humanity. I was proud to brag about simply knowing you, in person, when the subject of EMS and Paramedics came up around me here in Idaho...and I always thought of you as just a genuine "normal" human being who happened to dedicate his life to saving other lives. But now that you're an acknowledged hero, I will be forever humbled in your presence! The main paramedic service around here is the Ada County Paramedics.....the County ambulance service. I haven't looked into it lately, but Boise FD had paramedics and ambulances when I moved here, and there was even a low-level controversy over whether the FD should maintain a paramedic program and ambulances when the County has a well-established program. Now that I think about it, I never see Fire Department ambulances, only Ada County Paramedics. Yet, the Fire Dept has paramedics on a few engines in "underserved" areas, where in some cases Ada County Paramedics have an ambulance very close by--even right next door. I think there are still some territorial "issues" around here....sounds like we need something like you have. I'm toying with the idea of crafting an Ada County Paramedic ambulance if I find I have enough spares to do so. They're not using E-350s but I don't readily know what they ARE using....just that the only Matchbox models that are close are the #41(?) generic model ala "Pacific Ambulance". (Oddly, I couldn't find a single clear photo online of a current or past ACP rig....) |

Of course, literally the same day I posted my comment, I had to run some errands and passed an E-350 Ada County Paramedics rig going the other way. As Rick Perry once famously said: "Oops". |
