I love hard-boiled eggs. I prepare a dozen per week for a morning snack. I have a set method to make the perfect egg but something went awry when I a fired up my latest batch. I found that after the whites start to set do not change the position of the eggs. If the needed air bubble is at the bottom position and not the top, it will expand and force the egg to the the top , crack the shell and create a flow reminiscent of lava flowing into the ocean. Anyhow, I peeled the piece of art, loaded it on my flatbed trailer and headed off to our county fair where I took 1st Place in the "Annual Weird Egg" event. I then took out my machete and gave it a fine dice and shared it with all the spectators. It was delicious! ![]() ![]()

If that egg is to scale, I'm more worried about the chicken that laid it, than whatever prize the egg might have won! |

I've had a few "Lava Egg" incidents in my time. I remember the first time I tried to poach an egg without knowing how and made egg soup instead. I think most of these zingers were give to Vincent Price as Egghead...an egg-tremely sappy role, but funny in context. |

There is a tool for that... I've still got my mom's egg poacher and never use it.
Vincent Price was (still is, to me!) the baddest of the bad guys...only he could deliver those corny lines on Batman with a straight face. It is funny in retrospect, but he was cast so out of character for that role, apart from it being a bad guy. Funny how the Penguin went on to be so well loved in so many other roles... Vincent Price was from Fresno, California (as was Cher), useless trivia for the day... |

The key to poaching eggs so they don't dissipate into the water is a little vinegar. I don't have an egg poaching pan, BTW. I just use any old pan. So I don't know if a small egg sized compartment would hold the egg together without vinegar or not. I have a pretty active imagination, but here's a Vincent Price comparison for those old enough to remember Eve Arden. Look at her and Vincent Price next to one another, listen to their voices, they way they pronounce their words with that odd sort of drawl. They always looked like they could be brother and sister to me. Either that, or Vincent has a taste for drag

What ever possessed me to take a picture of this egg-centric aberration? |

H.P. Lovecraft I presume. I'm just glad you got it boiled before the eldritch abomination inside matured and hatched. |
