I've always enjoyed hunting and collecting plastic knock-offs of diecast emergency vehicles. Here's a few of them.

I love this classic Coach Sammy....don't ever leave your doors unlocked, or your shelf may have a blank spot

Funny phrase that...."Get the Gurney", not sure if I ever told you or not, but my very first partner in Toronto used that phrase all the time. Ahhhh the memories....hard to believe it was 25 years ago already....I go to my first "Pioneer" meeting on the 11th.....we may need "The Gurney"

Nice pic buddy

Glen

I don't know Glen, there is just something about "get the gurney" and putting them in that black Caddy with side curtains...I can see the patient hollering, no, no I don't need this one yet...
But that was the thing about so many early ambulance services - they were combination vehicles that were used by the funeral home and doubled as an ambulance. It was that way back home - Strate Funeral Home ran the ambulance service and my father often came down from the sheriff's office to help them make the conversion to the ambulance.

Sammy, thanks for showing these gems. And, Glen, as usual you impress with variety and a bevy of beauties heretofore unbeknownst to me (isn't that how you Canadians talk?).

I've not hidden the fact that plastic is fantastic in my opinion. There are so many fine examples in threads like this that I see how far I have to go to feel "whole" from a collector's standpoint.

I used to hate plastic. Now I have several plastic models on my list, some of them completed model kits as I'm not skilled enough to do it myself (like the Jo-Han Cadillac ambulance and Mini Lindy American LaFrance), some of them very expensive HO models, like those from Herpa. I now have several plastic models from brands like Amloid and

I like all of the ones shown, though the fit and finish of the lower end Gordy Pumper is horrible.

On those '40s ambulances, isn't a Twinsonic about twenty years older than the ambulance?

Yeah...I somehow doubt a '40's era ambulance came with a Twinsonic - but way to often the toy companies don't worry about realistic - just make an ambulance and yeah - that light bar would look cool on it - even though emergency vehicles of that era had bubble lights. :)
I used to have a lot of plastic 1/87th miniatures (all pre-assembled) when I was into HO model railroading. They were very nice pieces but as I have downsized over the years they were among the first to go (unless emergency vehicle related). The ambulances and such are always tempting in HO scale/plastic but these days on a more limited budget so...

I'm just ASHAMED of myself for not having found every one of those plastic models.....since for much of the 70s and 80s I was focused primarily on plastic and HO-plastic models. Of course, since then my focus has shifted back to diecast as more great stuff has been produced.
