Siku Jeep Wrangler; Casting overview

The Jeep Wrangler is a very well known model in the compact SUV market, because it is a direct descendant of the famed Willys MB. Manufactured since 1986, the Wrangler is currently in it's third generation, and is currently assembled in Toledo, Ohio, USA.

This Siku model represents the second generation Wrangler, in production since the 1997 model year, and featured coil-spring suspension, much like that of the Jeep Grand Cherokee. The TJ (as it was known) also featured the classic round headlights, made popular by the Jeep CJ.

The horse trailer was included with this Wrangler, as part of a set. I found the red version to be more appealing than the blue version, however I would have purchased the blue version if the horse trailer set wasn't there.

Onto the model!

This casting is very impressive, in terms of detail and accuracy. The metallic red paint is very evenly applied, and does a good job in contrasting with the black parts of the model.
Although there is quite a bit of plastic on this model (windshield, interior (roll bars included), and base, it doesn't make this model look cheap.

Here is a similar model of the Jeep to compare the model to (however, the top is up on this example):

Looking at the front, the classic Jeep front is well represented. The lights are painted silver, and the lines on the grille are painted as well. With that in mind, the front is kept nice and simple, while expressing the Jeep's ruggedness. While the detail for the signal lights is cast into the sides, the inclusion of them being painted would enhance the front of the model even more. Finally, although the windshield is fully plastic, there isn't a large noticeable difference when it comes to the color application.

The sides of the casting are very well done, as body lines and details are quite well represented, with the mirrors being cast into the body. However, some of the details seem to be obscured by the paint, as they weren't cast that deep. However, detail is brought out by the inclusion of the painted black fenders, which are accurate to the real thing.

One thing that stood out to me was the selection of the wheels, as it is perfect. The actual 5 spoke wheel complements the model perfectly, and while plastic (and it being a single piece), there is a terrific amount of detail on it. Excellent job, Siku.

Moving on to the rear of the model, we see that the most prominent feature is the spare tire. It is still an actual 5 spoke wheel (the same as the rest of the wheels), and there is no compromise on detail. Too often, we see that manufactures have made the spare tire much cheaper than the rest, but we don't see that here. The brake lights are also painted, but it is not a noticeable, as the model is painted red.

Another detail is the inclusion of a detailed interior. Since it is an open top Jeep, I have to feature it! All the details that one would want is in there, from a very detailed steering wheel, controls for the fans, gear shifter (by the looks of it, it seems to be a manual), and even cup holders!

Here is a picture of the base, which encompasses a lot of detail, as well as facts relating to the real vehicle.

Here are a few pictures of the Jeep doing what it was built for, which is off-roading!

Lastly, here are a few pictures of a trio of Wranglers that I have! All are TJ models, and they are made by Tomica and Matchbox, respectively.

From left to right: Tomica, Siku, and Matchbox.

Scale-wise, the Tomica version is listed to be 1/64 scale, while the Matchbox version has it listed as 1/56 scale. The Siku is larger than the Tomica, and is really close to the Matchbox. Therefore, my personal conclusion is that the model is 1/55 scale, as there is no scale listed anywhere on the model.

The bottom line is that this model was well worth the $10 I paid for the set ($5.50 if you just want the single model). Excellent detail and execution in this model (and the others that I bought that day) has put Siku high on my favorite list. It is definitely a model that any Jeep fan must have in their collection!

I hope that you enjoyed the pictures and overview!

That is very impressive. I love the wheels too. Thanks for posting the comparison pictures too. I was a little worried about the scale, but sitting next the Matchbox I can tell it will still make a nice addition to my Jeeps. The Tomica looks very nice as well, that makes two Jeeps I need to add.

I've seen the Siku model and it is impressive. I wouldn't mind seeing a side comparison of the three models. Normally, I would bet on the Tomica as being the best of the three, but it looks like Siku might be ahead of its competition here.

doesn't look like a typical SIKU model to me . looks a little on the crude side for a SIKU.

your pics are very good with great detail, maybe that is what is setting everything off for me.

if your not interested in the horse trailer LMK please, I could take it off of your hands

thanks, btm

Thanks for the comments, everyone!

Ben, it was my pleasure in posting this. I'm glad that you like it!

Dragnet, I may consider doing a comparison of all 3 models. It is a great idea!

BTM: I'll probably be keeping the horse trailer, but if I ever change my mind, I'll let you know.

Your comparison of the three Jeeps was very nice and informative. I always liked the sets that Siku has offered with a vehicle and some type of trailer.

Nice pics! I like this version of the Jeep from Siku, the wheels are especially nice. They make quite a few different colors and trailers. It looks great in black!

This is one in yellow that came with a rescue boat...

Awesome Review Stampede. Itoo have several versions of the Siku Jeep and it is currently my favorite Wrangler in my collection. I can't wait for the Greenlight version to arrive so I can do a side by side comparison

Great review and pics, I might have to find me one of those. The only Siku Jeep I have is an older issue with the siku name on the wheels, but I don't know that it's the same type of Jeep as this.
