I've tried Meccano before. It's sold as Erector over here. I am getting better at it. So far the only thing I've built that stays together is a little skid steer. These look great. I don't think I could even try to build something that intricate. I think though, if I had the proper parts, I think I could build the little hand pumper. Edited by cody6268, Sep 11 2014, 06:09 PM.

I could not believe the detail that was achieved in these models. They are so accurate it is scary when you compare them to the real thing. |

Were these issued as unique and specific models, or just generic construction sets that one would then fashion to his/her own whims? (I remember "Erector" sets in my childhood, but never anything this detailed or all-encompassing.) There are certainly some quite-authentic pump parts visible on some of the models. Dave, you said "a very talented builder".....I'd call him/her "Master"! |

These are the imagination and talent of the person making them. There are no special parts apart from painting the standard pieces from the kit. You used to just get a big box of parts, just like lego, to let your imagination run riot, with some plans to make set pieces. These are all freestyle. |

I think I once had an entire fire and rescue department made out of Lego. I had a custom well detailed ambulance, 4x4 Brus Fire Truck (heavily customized from their brush truck from '12, I removed the command center in it and replaced it with a pump panel in additon to many other modifications), a custom light rescue (complete with K12, Jaws of Life, and several other pieces of equipment), and an 8x8 airport crash truck I made from the fireboat transporter cab and chassis. It had a water tank, monitor (capable of articulation), an equipment compartment, an area behind the seats in the cab for SCBAs, and a booster reel. All were disassembled for modifications, which I never got around to doing. Edited by cody6268, Sep 16 2014, 07:47 PM.
