![]() Today's car of the day is Ideal's 1981 Pontiac Firebird T-Top. ![]()
![]() For more information and pictures of the real car please visit: Pontiac Firebird ![]() ![]() The "Slam Shifters" series from Ideal were a key-car launcher type toy car, which used a button kids would "slam" to launch the car. The gaping hole at the rear of each casting is where the car attached to the launcher. The series debuted in 1982 (from what I can find online about the company and series), so I labeled this Firebird as a 1981. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong and there is a detail or two showing this to be a '79 or '80. ![]()

I remember the slam shifters - fun little toys to shoot across the floor and watch the cat chase. This is a pretty nice looking Pontiac - another of those brands that is pretty well gone from the diecast scene.

New casting? Quick! Take it apart!

You know, as far as it being a Pontiac, it looks pretty good, but the wheels and the detail painting....

Drive it like you stole it!

Found my first Slam Shifter today. The Nomad in Yellow and amazingly the lights still work! |
