Welcome to the Garage. Perhaps you'd like to introduce yourself and tell us about what you enjoy collecting, in the "Introduce Yourself" topic pinned at the top of the "Off Topic" bay. |

Welcome to the garage It's a great place to share your passion for diecast and learn a lot as well. I'll second the motion for hearing about what you collect. Or you can just dive right in and post your comments to whatever you like

What? I'm new here, and this is what you tell me? I ain't giving nothing to you. Try as hard as you can, but you're only wasting your finger's energy to type. Either way, you won't get anything out of me. |

Plus, I don't see why you want me to provide more informtation. This is the likliness of any other forum, and that's why over (by my point of view) 2000+ people file complaints to the owner of the forum and it's obvious what happens after. |

I could show you examples of other introductions here and in light of those my comment might make more sense, but as you said, it would be a waste of finger energy. |

This isn't just "any other forum". THIS IS SWIFTY"S GARAGE. If BluffCreek doesn't like OUR RULES; he can just go play somewhere else. Very simple and should be easily understood. End of subject for me! Cheers. Cobra |

Being "New" does not grant permission for a person to stomp upon respected members ... Thanks for the insight. Eric |

BC--Not 100% sure that you're who I thought you were...though still haven't ruled out first impressions. However, taking it for the moment that you are totally new to the garage, you must keep in mind a couple of things. Firstly, there are no set rules that state you have to dole out personal information about yourself. I know a lot of folks like to keep most personal stuff private on the internet, so maybe requests to talk about yourself were misunderstood. What most people want to know is your collecting habits concerning diecast, we share photos, opinions, and generally help one another out with information--even extras we may have if you're looking for certain pieces. There are a lot of very nice people here and some with pretty vast knowledge of diecast and its history. So much might be said of any number of sites dedicated to this hobby. And it seems from your responses that you may have had some bad experiences on other sites. We all know how some of them can get from time to time. The difference here--and this is not just my opinion--is that the atmosphere is more relaxed. It's a contagious attitude that the long standing members appreciate and hope to preserve. I would suggest you give it some time and not judge this site by others you may have frequented. On the other hand, you've made a fairly mysterious beginning with a first post asking to be greeted in as few words as possible and not a single word on diecast like--or even dislikes. Many have greeted you warmly. Many would've done that...have done that...seeing a first post by a new member in any of the forums. But it creates an envelope without knowing if we are talking to a diecast collector, or just a kid playing a joke. Which happens now and then. So you'll have to excuse those of us who thought this might be a joke of some kind. If it is merely a test on your part to see if you get greeted by more friendly folks than on some other sites, my best advice is to just play in our sandbox for a while without making such a mystery of it and you'll probably like it just fine. But if you approach us with hostility, or preconceived notions, then it won't work. Because many people here have also had less than pleasant experiences elsewhere and they will end up looking at you and thinking, "Oh, he's one of those guys," and avoid you. Or seem rude back. Right now, all we can do is greet you, but we can't really communicate in terms of the hobby because you left all that blank. All we have are questions: What do you collect? Do you prefer realism, fantasy, movie cars? Do you have a favorite brand? Would you like to know more about lesser known brands? The garage is great for learning about brands from around the globe, current and defunct. How long have you collected? Because if you're relatively new, there's a whole world of diecast people here could open your eyes to. Thing is, right now, we wouldn't know where to begin. And lots of folks here take joy in that type of assisting with fellow collectors. Hence the request for more information. You don't have to share your life and personal information. Just a little diecast talk will do nicely for most. That's why we're all here. |

I personally haven't had bad experiences elsewhere or even gotten into much trouble with members elsewhere. I just find the audacity of making a whole new thread to introduce yourself without actually introducing yourself and instead demanding to be greeted- seriously, who does that?- quite off putting. |

Dragnet_Supporter said everything very nicely. So I'm just going to echo his post. If you give us a chance, and you don't play games, and don't dig up old threads and claim to be offended by them, we'll be fine. If not, please do yourself and all of us a favor and find another forum to play around on. Your welcome here will be worn out shortly at the rate you're going. Which would be a shame, but you control your own destiny here. I'd be ecstatic if you'd like to be a valued member of our community. But this is a friendly board. We don't like conflicts, and we don't like arrogance. So if you're willing to play nice, welcome to Swifty's Garage! If not, then I would advise you not waste any more finger energy on a reply. |

Nope, not at all. I don't like talking about myself either and we don't require an intro post. So I'm perfectly fine with not having an intro post saying "Hi, I'm so & so and I live in this city." But BC chose to make an intro post, and then used it to demand attention, and that's where the problem lies. Other folks just slip into the community by replying to posts. And there's nothing at all wrong with that strategy. |
