The Gumpert Apollo is a mid-engined sports car designed and manufactured by German automaker Gumpert Sportwagenmanufaktur GmbH, from 2005 to 2012. Weighing at around 2,400 lb-2,600lbs, boasting three engine options (with outputs of 641, 690 and 789 horsepower respectively),and possessing a top speed of 360.4km/h (223.9mph) it is not wonder that the Apollo held the fastest lap of the Top Gear track (but it has since been dethroned).

Now, here's the Siku model:

This model was added to my collection during my first trip to Mastermind Toys, and for a very reasonable price of $5, there was no way that I was passing this up!

Being a lesser-known vehicle, the Apollo is under-represented in die-cast form, as this Siku model is the only one so far in the 3" range. However, this model is larger than 1/64 scale, and my best guess of scale would be that of 1/55-1/60 range.

One is able to notice right away that this model is well made, with the inclusion of rubber tires, opening features and separate pieces for the headlights and tailights.

Taking a look at the front, one is able to notice that the Gumpert emblem is clearly printed, however it is quite a bit larger when compared with the picture of the real vehicle, and the cooling vent on top of the vehicle is blue, as opposed to black on the real car . On the other hand, the details (such as the various vents for cooling) are painted black, exactly how they appear on the real vehicle. The headlights, being spearate pieces, also look at home on this model, as the shape of the headlights are akin to that of the real model.

Moving onto the rear, the details on the real car are translated nicely onto this model. The "Gumpert" and "Apollo" branding are printed clearly and crisply onto the model, aslways a plus. The large spoiler is made of die-cast, and is solidly attached to the model and finished, perfectly representing the spoiler on the real vehicle.

The opening features on this vehicle are the doors that, when opened, are reminiscent of the famed "gull wing" style as made famous by the iconic Mercedes-Benz 300SL sports car. Siku has done a good job with the opening features, as the open and close without any problems at all, and the doors do not jut out from the body when they are closed.

Here is a close-up picture of the interior, as viewed through the open doors (the interior is done quite well, as the features look realistic).

To end off the pictures, here is a view of the base, featuring facts about the real vehicle.

The bottom line is, this model appeals to many collectors of: Vehicles of German Origin, Supercars, 'off-brand' vehicles, among others. Siku has done a great job in replicating this beautiful vehicle, and as a result it sits proudly in my collection.

I hope that you enjoyed the pictures and the overview!

Very nice. Great write up and pics too. I wouldn't have had a clue those doors opened looking at the first photos. They seem to fit very tightly.

Thanks for the comments, Dragnet! They are much appreciated!

The opening features is one of the best features of this particular model, in my opinion, as they are done with precise execution (as you have stated).
