Carn-Nel is a line of diecast produced by/for a Japanese Minicar shop called Hiko7 (Hiko7 Plus). Hiko7 is located in Yokohama and happens to be a 15 minute walk from my in-laws house. Hiko7 is also responsible for RAI's models (most of which are 1/43 scale police and fire department vehicles, and a small range of 1/64 scale police vehicles). I have the Hiko7 police cars in 1/64 scale and they are comparable to Kyosho Beads Collection. Up until now, Car-Nel produced only 1/43 scale models, however beginning in November they have introduced a line of 1/64 scale models. November release Nissan Skyline GT-R KPGC10 Custom Version (Silver) http://www.hiko7plus.co.jp/item/CN640001/ Nissan Skyline GT-R KPGC10 Custom Version (White) http://www.hiko7plus.co.jp/item/CN640002/ Nissan Fairlady Z S30 Custom Version (Red) http://www.hiko7plus.co.jp/item/CN640003/ Nissan Fairlady Z in 1955 Custom Version (White) http://www.hiko7plus.co.jp/item/CN640004/ December release Nissan Fairlady Z 240ZG Custom Version (Maroon) http://www.hiko7plus.co.jp/item/CN640005/ Nissan Fairlady Z 240ZG Custom Version (Red) http://www.hiko7plus.co.jp/item/CN640006/ Nissan Skyline GT-R KPGC110 Custom Version (Silver) http://www.hiko7plus.co.jp/item/CN640007/ Nissan Skyline GT-R KPGC110 Custom Version (White) http://www.hiko7plus.co.jp/item/CN640008/ I ordered a few from AmiAmi and I received them yesterday (along with a Kyosho Hiace and Oversteer Mazda). ![]() CN640002 Nissan Skyline GT-R KPGC10 Custom Version (White) ![]() CN640003 Nissan Fairlady Z S30 Custom Version (Red)

Okay, so my first impressions of the new Car-Nel 64 models.... but with a little bit of Here's my brief review for what it's worth. I look forward to reading other reviews by those of you that receive these models, so please share your thoughts and comments once you receive them. Packaging - Excellent. Nice outer cardboard box which encases and helps protect the display box. The display box cover has tabs to hold it firmly to the base. The base has a name/description of the model. The model is attached to the base by a single screw and a separate plastic pin. The Model - Overall these are some very nice models. Detailing is excellent! Fender mirrors with reflective face. Nicely detailed emblems. Chrome bumpers and some chrome trim. Wheels seem accurate and roll; tires are rubber. Interior detail is fine, and in the case of the Z it is even multicolored. Nice jeweled headlamps. Issues - as I stated these are very nice models. The price I paid was 2,150 JPY (plus shipping) which roughly translates to about $21.00 USD. That's a lot for a small car, so I will be critical when it comes to flaws. The Skyline has a few issues. Paint has minor flaws that might be due to very fine dust/imperfections. The paint also seems like it might be a little thin, but I guess that's better than too thick and obscuring details. The left front fender has a very minor chip or nick (I tried to see if it was something that might rub out, but to no avail). The right passenger door had what looked like smudged paint, but may have been some glue or adhesive that did rub out for the most part (the paint still seems to have some minor imperfection in that spot). The details are hard to photograph and you only really see it with a magnifying glass - viewing with the naked eye from 18 inches the car looks fine. One tire has a minor flaw on it's tread surface but it is easily overlooked. The Fairlady is better. The paint seems perfect, as does the rest of the car. The Z has a black interior with a brown steering wheel and shift knob, and the rear cargo area has some silver accents. When I was taking pictures I noticed what looked like a big glob of glue between the left front tire and the fender. Further examination revealedthat is what it was, and after some careful picking and poking I was able to extract it. That was the only issue I found on the Z (so far). So, overall I think the are some of the best examples of 1/64 diecast models out there. I'm curious if the minor issues I discovered are common or not. If other people find issues, then I hope QC can be improved to eliminate them in the future. In the meantime I have ordered the other two models that will be released later this month. If I buy more in the future only time will tell. The price point is at my upper limit for models of this scale, and since I'm otherwise quite happy with the quality of the TLV, I'll just have to wait & see what the future will bring. Nonetheless it is good to see more selection emerging for 64 scale collectors. Next up, pictures......

I only got the Z and mine looks perfect. It does however roll a bit rough with a wobble in front. I find this happens with a lot of my higher price die cast, but oh well, at least to rolls. I also bought all of the Miata's and they look flawless. Since you did the review pics, I figured I'd do some dio Pics ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I bought the Skyline and also pre-ordered the Kenmeri only out of sheer curiosity. Just based on the pictures on amiami, I was hoping it was just pre-pro mock up and therefore subject to flaws. But Michael your pictures seem to confirm that these cars are just plain flawed at the $20 price point. Sorry to be so negative but aside from nicely sized fender mirrors, I seriously can't see how these can be worth even $5. Kind of having buyers remorse, before I've even received them LOL. |

I dunno... I do think $20 is too much for these, but I wouldn't go so far as to say they are $5 cars. I'd put them in the $10 to $15 range. Yes there are flaws but they're not really that bad as maybe I made them out to be. However I'm still holding out on my final decision until I get the next set and also hear other collector's impressions. One thing I can say is, I did expect them to be in par with the Rai's 64 police cars I have, which also come from Hiko7. I think all the Rai's 64 cars I've received have all been perfect so far. |

They don't look half bad, and it's a shame quality doesn't match price. I was thinking of pre-ordering the Kenmeri, but with Kyosho announcing that they're going to re-run their own Skyline GT-R series, I've decided to hold off and just pick up one of the Kenmeris from that set. I hope Car-Nel does a few more models, with a couple that are new to 1/64 scale. It's been driving me a little crazy lately that the Japanese 1/64 makers have been releasing, by coincidence, the same models in close time frames (ex. Tomytec and Kyosho with the Century and GT-R). I don't imagine it makes model sales any easier when that happens. Edited by the_weatherman, Dec 12 2014, 12:40 PM.
