My local store has the 48 car Jammer cases on sale now for $8.99 each. Normally they are wack-a-do price at $14+. They are sold as thread organizers now. They also have coupons out for $5 off a $25 purchase, $10 off a $50 or $15 off a $75 buy. If you buy three of them it's essentially $7.34 per item plus tax. It's not cheap like they were years ago at Wal-Mart for $4/$5 but beats not having them. ![]()

Guess I've got to go, then. I have an entire cabinet full of loose models that needs a case to put them in. I did some organization earlier this week and was able to clear out an entire Lesney 48 car case (this is the one I use when changing shelves), but that case was filled up when I put away a couple of overcrowded is shelves full of models. My cases are as follows: Four Jammers, categorized Ford, GM, Dodge, and VW Group (one side for VW (both Porsches and Volkswagens go in the VW side, since I don't have much of either and one side for Dodge), and a case that isn't labelled, that was almost emptied when I categorized by maker, that is now half full. One nearly full 1969 Lesney Matchbox 72 car case. With a broken handle that I still haven't figured out to fix, it's a pain to carry. One nearly full 1969 Lesney 1969 48 Car Superfast case. The toolbox style latch is the best securing mechanism is the best they used I think. I bought it filled with models already. Most of what is in it now was clearing out shelves to make space for it. One now full 1975 Lesney case. It has the part of the top that goes around the handle that keeps the case closed torn off, so when it is carried, I stick rubber bands on it. When my English Matchbox was small in the pre-Ebay and online shopping years, I used to bring it several places to show off my collection to friends and family members. Now it is used when I clear off shelves, so I have a place to keep the stuff until it's categorized. One plastic Realtoy dump truck case. Almost never used, though was used heavily when I was little. It is still used to hold a few models, but since it can't carry much, it's of little use. Edited by cody6268, Dec 13 2014, 08:29 PM.

I've been able to catch them at $7 from them quite often. Walmart site to store shot their price from $7 a few weeks ago to around $12 |

Oh good, I'm in need of more. I know where I'm going tomorrow. Are the coupons on the website or somewhere else?If I had to hazard a guess, I'd say the Walmart price increase is due to the holiday season and they'll probably drop back closer to normal in January. |

Thanks for the notice! Jo-Ann has been my source for these Jammers, and with the 40% off coupon, it's a decent price. But the sale prices are even better! Oddly enough, I have never seen these particular Jammers at any Walmart I've been to... |

Several years ago there was a recall on these sold at Wal-Mart. Under extreme pressure the plastic can break and produce sharp edges. Thus they were pulled from Wal-Mart shelves and to my knowledge are only sold online as thread organizers. |

I always chuckle when I see these advertised as thread organizers. Long before JoAnne fabric stores were selling them my wife was looking at the Jammers I used for my little cars and we both agreed they would make good storage cases for her sewing thread. She bought several at Wal Mart (back in the days when they still carried them. They do work very nicely for thread...and little cars too!

they are available on Walmart . com but not .ca . ...Fabricland carries them in Canada for a wopping $30 , on sale 50% off a few times a year... I find it odd that being made by Plano they are so hard to get |

I agree.....I've resorted (in past years) to going to outdoors/sporting goods stores to find any sort of Plano compartmentalized storage boxes....in the fishing tackle section, no less. But they never carried these 48-slot Jammers cases there. I guess 'sewing thread' isn't manly enough for a sporting goods/outdoors/hunting supplies store....

Well, I decided to check Joann online to see if the prices were acceptable, and found my local store had 11 in stock (you can search by zip code for your local store). The store has a 50% off sale thru Jan 1; online seems to indicate it's a company-wide sale. I got 4 at $7.49 each (not counting tax). Still, saved $30 off 'regular price'. I guess I could add that no coupon was needed. Don't know if they'd honor any coupons on top of the half-price discount. Edited by b2young, Dec 29 2014, 02:03 PM.

Thanks for posting your results, b2young! Sounds like I need to head on over to Jo-Ann's soon! And no, they don't accept coupons on already discounted items, as the coupon discount only applies to a full-price item. Same goes for Hobby Lobby. |
