I hit my fav thrift store this morning, and scored nada. Later this afternoon, I hit another thrift store, closer to home, which normally doesn't have much, if any, diecast worth buying. Today, however, I struck pure GOLD. :woot: While cruisin' the toy section, I noticed some toy airplanes, actually old jets. I went to pick the baggie off the peg, and BOY was it heavy! After I got it down, I noticed the jets were floor wind-up toys, with 3 wheels ( so, technically a cycle-jet? :P ). Anyway, if it rolls on the floor, it's gotta be allowed here! Rolled them over, and the underside said Schuco, made in Western Germany....well, when it says "western", you KNOW that is post-war era! And baby, these 'planes are MINT. Decals fading to orange from age, but there, the paint is all unchipped. No wind-up key came with them, but still, I got all 3 for $10 and change. I just went to Ebay to see what they sell for, and nice ones around $25-30 or so. :bangles: What a nice end-of-day score. I'm just agog over how mint they are, absolutely gorgeous. So, I'll share the pictures with you. I've already put them on my shelf by the couch for display. I've always liked the Sabre jet, the red one with tanks on the end of the wings, I remember seeing some as a child in the '60's flying overhead ( and hearing sonic booms, too, although they (Air Force ) denies ever doing that over Richmond, VA but I remember hearing them.
At any rate, while not a diecast car, several thousand horsepower just CAN'T be overlooked!

Jerry

I think the silver one is a Sabre.

These are mint!

I almost bought one in poor shape on Ebay.

You ought to get some keys and try them out.

I have a 50 something year old Marx dozer, and I put rubber bands on the drive wheels (tracks are missing), wind it up and let it go on the floor occasionally.

If I ever go to DC like I've planned, I'm going by those thrift shops.

yes, it is a Sabre

yes, they are mint!

I will try them out sometime

Thrift Village in Dale City / Woodbridge, on Smoketown Road, is the good one. :) Since I don't think you'll be competing with me much, if you ever DO make it up, that's the one to hit. if you wait until Saturday or Sunday, though, it'll be cleaned out. Gotta get there near the end of the week before the kids with their Moms come in on the weekend and wreak havoc on the inventory.

Over the years I have seen some of the Schuco wind up cars and trucks. These planes are new to me and very nice. A bit surprising to find them in a thrift shop - and in such excellent condition.

Nice grabs! The first one looks to be relatively close to a Lockheed T-33 Shooting Star, however the last one looks similar to a Shooting Star, albeit without the wing tanks and the standard tail.

The decals-although they are yellowed, are they falling off?

no, they seem to be well attached at this point. I'm not gonna pick at them to find out, though! :o Being in the same bag together with no protection was not a good thing, but they weren't there long. They're now on a shelf being displayed in my living room. :D Couldn't ask for nicer condition toys! They were truly a bargain and a great snag. :1:
