(Barracuda68 did a neat little review of the 1500 earlier today, and I hope you all look at his post as well. His outdoor photography is something I can always look forward to)
------------

Let's get right to it. I love this truck. This Chevy reminded me of the 'good ol' days', so much so that it is sitting in one of my display cases alongside the debut Mitsubishi L200 and Ford F-150 Raptor, and I am glad to report that it fits perfectly with them. This is actually the first stock modern pickup new model we have seen since the Saveiro's first appearance in 2011; 3 years ago!

It is good to see Matchbox trying to carry out some traditions, and although admittedly there are not many Silverado castings, it does feel like a tradition. The new Silverado was a great place to pick up, even though at first I was skeptical of the bold, brash, in-your-stupid-face-Prius design. I have grown accustomed to it, but I like the look on the Matchbox more than the real truck, and that is one of the largest compliments a model can receive. The chiseled, straight edges look extremely attractive here.

This truck also had me thinking about seeing a brand new vehicle in Matchbox miniature. This is a 2014 model Silverado, and it debuted, albeit late, in 2014, and we have not seen something like that happen in what feels like ages. The Matchbox licensed line has been feeling out-of-date for a while, and this is the first brand-new vehicle since the Fisker Karma debuted in 2010. The Charger Pursuit came late, the 2012 Explorer came all dressed in off-road warfare equipment, and even the 1M was several years past its prime. I hope this Silverado speaks for the upcoming several years, and I think it will.

We will see a new 4C, which has just been released in the US, as well as the new F-type Coupe, the Tesla, and a brand-spanking new F-150.
Posted Image

The casting itself is a revival of some old ways. I was pleased to find a diecast B-pillar, something that has gone amiss lately. This truck also comes with chrome treatment which we had all conspired saw its last days in the basic line. But, best of all, there are front and rear tampoes paired with a gorgeous metallic blue paint. The front tampoes are hard to catch because of how the light strikes the chrome, but there are black and white tampo strikes on the headlights (mine are offset), a blue strip between the grille and bumper, a license plate and the Chevrolet bowtie.
Posted Image

To sum up, we have an actually current new model, a cleanly executed casting, and an admirable stock design. What Matchbox could be better to find in your Christmas stocking?

(The attention to detail is exemplified with the foot-steps in the rear bumper)

There are two complaints. The first is that the paint spray can be substantially more even in the rear bed.
Posted Image

The second is the scale on the base. 1:64? Scales used to be taken seriously and were not generic, but after seeing 1:64 plastered on the bottom of the generic Turn Tamer, I suppose we should have seen this coming.

What a nice gift.

I hope you enjoyed,

Front plate but not a rear one?! That's weird. Here in Va, everyone seems to have to have a front plate (except for some reason, a friend of mine never has had a front plate for some reason). In WV, only a front plate is needed.

With the detailing, this Chevy looks great. I hope to find this batch. Maybe, they'll restock soon with stocks of earlier batches depleted due to Christmas.

Speaking of the hitch, especially with it being a truck, why didn't they put one on it? At least it isn't like the early Superfast years, when the Iso Grifo, a sports car had a hitch, when the Ford F-100 didn't, which has never made sense to me, as I've never seen a sports car with a trailer, and I see many trucks with a trailer.

That whole 1/64 thing's ticking me off to. I've even started a thread on it. I did some calculations on the MXT, which was supposedly 1/64 and it's almost perfectly HO scale (1/87).

Enjoyed the showcase Nicolas! Your pics make it look better than I thought it did, although I hadn't opened mine yet to sit and look closely at it, but I didn't even realize the front was tampoed too...cool

Seems weird to me that only the front plate is required in WV; how's the cop supposed to run a plate before getting out and approaching the driver? What if the car was reported stolen, or involved in a shootout?

Interesting about the plate - I know a number of states that only require a rear plate - as Blair notes, it is usually the rear of the car that the police first see to run a check on via the plate. It is neat to see the extra design treatment on this model and strange that they didn't do the plate on the back as well. As for the scale - it would be nice if they would just drop it all together since they are just slapping it on as a "generic 1/64th" and not actual.

Really nice review, and photography, Nicolas! This truck is one of Matchbox's better efforts, and your pictures certainly show that!

Hopefully this model will make its way into my collection, and when it does, I'll be sure to put some paint on that grille. It looks good stock, but a little flat black will make this model pop even more.

" In WV, only a front plate is needed"

Not entirely true. This only applies to tractor trailers.

§17A-3-15. Display of registration plates.
(a) Registration plates issued for vehicles required to be registered under this article shall be attached to the rear of the vehicles except that on truck tractors and road tractors designed and constructed to pull trailers or semitrailers, the registration plate shall be mounted to the front.

Great pics and write up as always Nic. I can't share your enthusiasm for this Matchbox unfortunately . I hate, with a passion, that great big blob of cheap looking, ill fitting chrome plastic slapped on the front. I've seen it in the shops on a number of occasions but haven't bought it, I just hope that the upcoming new releases are better executed than this one.

Great write up! I have been fortunate to find a few of these in the wild... Picked up one for myself and for a buddy of mine that usually can't find any new cars in his area of PA; but then his luck turned and he got one so now I've got an extra lol Anyway, I didn't notice the headlight detail at the store at all, but once I got home and liberated it I was pleasantly surprised!

See, Cody? We're all without fault....while you, well, sheesh!

Nicolas, I wonder if you'll do a set on the red 1500 since you've already done its first color? (Just hoping cuz yours'll be better than mine...) I noticed the tampos but only because you mentioned them here. But they are a nice touch....if you have a magnifier to check them out.

The GEORGIA plates on the red recolor say "ZULATR".

I SHOULD HAVE SAID "SPOILER ALERT"........

Ha! That means a lot. I probably will do a post on the red version because it is so nice, and most of us were not expecting another civilian version. I actually was hoping for a red 1500 to come next, so it seems like all of my 2015 Matchbox wishes have come true so far.

But please, post away if you have an example!

And thanks MRL. :)

Support your local demo derby.

Look forward to scoring the red version. Found the blue one late last December.

Of course, what I think I like most about the red one is that it won't take much to make it a fire department pickup.....at least for a department with a tradition of RED fire apparatus.

Certainly not throw away pics; thanks for sharing them! It looks like Mattel gave the headlights better definition on this release. It may just be your photos but it appears that the paint is thicker, making the lights crisper.

It looks great in gloss red.
