The Coast Guard Bronco II was a staple of my childhood playtime (along with the DAF convoy truck, with Coast Guard ship in-tow). All of them look great. Thanks for posting them together. |

For some reason when I got rid of my Convoy models I let this one sail away.

I've had a thing for these Coast Guard models. Once, (for about five years), CVS had a Matchbox Coast Guard 5-pack that warmed the hanger forever. It was eight bucks, and I didn't buy it. I wish I had, as it would have still been cheaper than than secondary market prices. I have a Coast Guard version of the Rescue Helicopter that was in a playset I had as a kid, but it's long been misplaced. My favorite would be the old Rescue Helicopter. |

darn... I missed out on all of those. I have some 1:43 coastie stuff, and of course the new GL CG police, but none of those classics |

That Bronco sure is nice in CG livery, I'm not even sure whether I have it or not, it was out a few years before I started collecting, so I might have missed ever hunting one down. |

That's a good way to look at the non-standard retail outlets' prices.....I've made the same decision on occasion too (but, around here, no CVS so Rite Aid is the choice for outdated Matchbox 5-packs). If I'd seen that Coast Guard 5-pack at Rite Aid, I'd have bought it, especially since I don't remember ever seeing it in stores....being a "military" set, and an agency that also performs SAR and Law Enforcement, it quite fits an "emergency" themed collection. Of course, I didn't think of the CG as an "emergency agency" back then. Can't think of any Matchbox CG models in my collection, other than one or two Sky Busters also released as "air tankers". |

I just picked up that Bronco II (first photo) at the local "antique" toy shop last week. I have to wonder what I may have missed at that store, having been "intending" to stop by for well more than a year....and the store may have been there ever since I moved here..... (Side note: I did pick up a couple of HW Police 5-packs I don't remember seeing in stores when they came out...both different....and for $3 apiece--10 reasonably nice police cars--okay, there was a speed boat in one-- for $6!) |

It always amazes me what kind of diecast one can find in antique type stores and often times at fairly decent prices. There used to be a neat antique shop in downtown Fargo that I would frequent when my daughter was a student at NDSU. While they had tons of Hot Wheels they always had a small section of Matchbox regular wheels. And always at prices I could afford even with a daughter in college. Actually the they seemed to jack the prices up on the Hot Wheels stuff and saw the Matchbox items as stuff that just took up space that they could make a little money off of. Sadly the store is long gone
