2014 was a great year for diecast, personally. My collection expanded significantly, and one might add that I bought a little too much diecast. There were some memorable moments this year, such as the addition of my first Green Machine into my collection, as well as finding a (somewhat) local store that carries a wide range of the elusive, yet beautiful Sikus. With that said, the most memorable addition to my collection in 2014 was this model: the 80M Dennis Euro V Enviro 500 Double Decker bus. ![]() ![]() Why this model? The fact that I have never seen so much detail in a piece of diecast this size. The interior and exterior are meticulously produced, paying attention to many details found in the real bus. Coupled with the fact that I dreamed of having a model like this in my collection for a long time, and managing to add it really made my day, and really the whole year. Well, that's my most memorable addition in 2014. Now it's your turn: What was the most memorable addition to your respective collections in 2014? From rare, unique or just plain memorable in the way you acquired it, fell free to show and tell! I'm sure that there will be many, many interesting responses, and I can't wait to read them! |

2014 was definitely my most memorable year of collecting so far. While I've collected for almost 15 years now, it was all in store. It was about 3 or 4 years ago that I started collecting Kyosho, and about 2 years ago that I joined my first diecast site. This year I joined Swifty's, and have really enjoyed everyone here. I've made some very memorable trades this year, met a lot of great people and learned more in 1 year than the past 14 combined. This year was also been the luckiest year so far, with some great deals at local shows, great trades, and the best in store luck I've ever had since my two favorite stores changed to stocking in the middle of the day. It was also a great year in realizing how nice a community of like minded collectors can be, as I was blessed to receive several great RAOK's and have enjoyed trying to pay it forward. As for my most memorable addition. I'd probably narrow it down to two. The first is the Auto World Ultra Raw GT40, which is a testament to my diecast insanity this year, and probably the nicest piece I'll ever have in my collection, I just don't think it could ever be topped. ![]() The other I would probably say is this Norev VW Concept T (The red SUV). While it's cool in it's own right, the reason it is the most memorable is the story behind it. I stumbled across it on Ebay, and noticed the seller was also in Fort Worth. The number of collectors of brands like Norev here locally can probably be counted on one hand, so I sent him a message and ended up meeting up. He was moving overseas and I added several dozen great cars from Kyosho, Auto Art, etc. as a result and made a friend in the process. The kicker was being able to get a 1/18 Kyosho Ferrari 250 GTO that is just gorgeous, and scoring an entire case of vintage Tomica for $1 each! All from the one Norev VW.

For me the best thing in diecast from 2014 was the revelation that Yatming had unsold old stock from about 5 years ago that surfaced in China. The 1st gen Ford Falcon, two Packard convertibles and especially the Continental Mark II were absolute gems of models. The Mark II had long been one of my top 5 most wanted cars in small scale. The story that apparently Yatming never released these models to retail is baffling but I'm glad that through the kindness of Dean I was able to acquire them all. ![]() I pre-ordered several batches of AutoWorld and was never disappointed. Their casting selections of vintage wagons and never before done models in true 1/64 was quite welcome. They're the new kid of the block still and I'm most anticipating what direction they have mapped out for 2015. Greenlight seems to have come back to life this past year releasing over half a dozen new castings led by the '67 Impala, '14 International Durastar, Jeep Rubicon and the new Ram 1500. This after they basically offered next to none in the way of new castings in the past few yeras. M2 offered up a new Ford COE as well as new VW castings. They've had better years imo but do look forward to their new late 60s F Series pickup which should be out in the 1st or 2nd quarter of 2015. I bought fewer HWs than ever in the last 10 years. The new '80 Dodge Truck and a few other models looked decent but their $1 line failed to impress me much. Same goes for Matchbox though they seem to slowly coming back on track for 2015. Their focus on generics has kept my wallet shut most of the time. Broke down and bought a few Kyosho 'model kit's and they look good. Their genre of high end sports cars isn't my favorite but adding diversity in the collection is a plus. My best deal that I got this year was bidding and winning a large lot of Lesney era Matchbox at a local Amish auction. Cost per model was less than $3 and this was by far the best purchase I made in 2014. ![]() ![]() Also bought a lot of tractors in 1/64 and 1/16 scale at local farm toy shows, flea markets and auctions. My ag collection has rapidly expanded to over 160 1/16 scale models and over 200 1/64 scale models. At times when the small scale cars slow down I always have my tractor collection to focus on. All in all a great year in diecast for 2014. |

This year, my Regular Wheel Matchbox and early Superfast collection skyrocketed from two good size Ebay lots I only paid about $45 put together for the two lots, which totaled to over 60 cars in the two lots . I now have well over a dozen black wheel Regular Wheels, and about two dozen Superfasts, and two King Size models, the IH B250 tractor and the Ford D800 with Dyson Low Loader (didn't have the Case bulldozer with it, and since I needed a lowboy at the time, I bought it, as it was cheap at $8.). This year was the first I'd ever scored Hot Wheels Treasure Hunts. I was able to find the Twin Mill and Greenwood Corvette Supers and the El Camino regular. Thanks to Dave (dmet), I now have a few of the old gray wheel Matchboxes, which I had long been looking for. I was able to get the Carmichael Commando (two of them!) from him as well. That model was my Matchbox holy grail, as it was never offered in the 1-75 lineup here. From him, I also got my first Lone Star Impy, the Corsair Fire Chief. I purchased some shelves, and was able to spread out my collection instead of cramming everything on the few shelves I had. I got my Dad's old Tyco HO slot car track, and the Ideal cars he used with it, and am now a HO slot car racing enthusiast. I also started collecting Cigar Box cars for their Thunderjet bodies, but then decided I had to have spacers to do so, so I just put the bodies back on the Cigar Box chassis then put them on the shelf. Got some train stuff this year, too. I plan to start to build a basic layout, with roads and buildings, too. The vehicles won't be the pricey ones, I will just use the ones from my collection that are roughly HO scale. This year was the year I started collecting the pressed steel toys as well. Most of what I've bought this year a lot of you have already seen. I got things more organized this year. Edited by cody6268, Jan 5 2015, 06:53 AM.

My most memorable die cast moment of 2014 would have been back in February when Bobby Williams was liquidating some of his collection on ebay and I had just gotten my tax return. It was the perfect storm. I got many cool JL prototypes and WLs. As mentioned, the Yat Ming cars from China was another unusual high point. Third would be acquiring all the Dydo Ferrari cars with the exception of the 330 P4 which remains the only Kyosho Ferrari car casting I am missing. Lastly, 2014 was the year where I bought hardly any cars from stores. |

Over the past two years I have plugged about 99% of the holes in my Greenlight and M2 Mustang and Shelby Mustangs and Ford/Mercury trucks collection. There are a few grails out there that are still a bit pricey for me. Now it is a matter of acquiring any new variations and new casting releases. My desire to collect chase cars and promos comes as a surprise to me. In the early days I wanted no part of them. Today I would much prefer paying $30+ for a Green Machine than have 6 one dollar cars that lack everything that interests me. There are special HW castings that grew on me over the years. The custom '56 F-100 pickup and the '56 F-100 Panel Delivery. I go bonkers over these to a point where I buy them to customize and repaint. The customs have steadily outgrown the standard production models at this time. Auto-Word continues to amaze me. They don't seem to arrive fast enough. The same goes for my Pro-Stocks and Funny Car slots by AW. As I strive to remain focused in my collecting, I have taken a liking to GL's Durastar models, Shelby Cobras, and Cyclones. After all that is said and done, I am sitting here looking at the two M2 Drivers Release 29 1966 Mustang fastbacks that arrived yesterday. They really make me smile in their Satin Sapphire splendor. My vintage collecting and Corgi/HW collecting have expanded, and I've picked up a lot of great pieces here. The absolute highlight of the year for me though, is the HWC Hot Heap. That one was a grail level score for me. |

having grown up with late 60s & 70s diecasts ,I am thrilled because various opportunities came up this past year for me to buy a large number of vintage HW blackwalls ,some nice Superfasts , Majorettes & the first 3 Toppers I remember seeing...they ve caused some what of a shift in my collecting. finding my childhood is a new big rush...they all came to me via friends in the hobby I ve made over the last few years. Godsend considering the wild has been pretty depressing this year. I have yet to pull the trigger on more Red Lines...maybe this year

I'm always happy to add new cars to my collection, but these Mercedes GLK castings were my favorites for 2014. The gold is extra special as it was a RAOK. The blue and black came later, but still put a smile on my face. Maisto: ![]() ![]() RealToy: ![]() ![]() |

For me the memorable part was not so much adding a great model, since most of what I got in 2014 was new/current Mbx and a few HWs, although pleased with many things Mbx had been doing this past year, but what was better was me rediscovering my existing collection. You see, almost all my collection had been packed away since a move more than 2.5 years ago, then in the latter months of 2014 I'd finally been going through some of those boxes, and getting many models out in cabinets, or at least accessible. With many I forgot about, and all having been missed, 2014 was a great year for me to enjoy what I already had. I guess I can point out a couple models I thought were great from 2014; First the Mbx fox body Mustang Police is a winner. Second is the HWs Datsun pick up....I can't remember if that was a 2014 release or before, but they sure did some great looking colors last year. |

Wow, yeah, 2014 had it's ups and downs, but I think diecast-wise, there were way more ups than downs this year for me personally. More than a few AMC's starred in my ongoing roadshow of acquisitions. From 1/87 to 1/64 to 1/24, I found plenty to keep me happy. AW continued to surprise and impress me, I acquired more Reds and generally nice diecasts ( and a few AW slot cars, too ). While the restocking by stores was it's usual dismal self, when I did score, and it wasn't miserly in early 2014 either, I found more than my fair share of TH's, Reds, Chases, and other HTF diecasts, as well as models I like personally. I have nothing bad to say about 2014, it treated me well, and I can only hope 2015 brings as many surprises and rewards on wild hunts as it did this past year. Even the bargain-bin market was a hit for me, if any of you have followed my posts on the Thrift Store diecast baggie finds of vintage diecast. There was definitely no shortage of vintage zinc this past year, either!!! So here are a few of my picks for my favorite finds of 2014. I've had so many nice scores, I can't keep up with all the ones I could or would post....having my PC crash some months ago removed the folder with all my diecast pics, or the majority of them, so until I can somehow recover THAT folder, if still possible, I can only show some that were saved in other folders or general photo areas.
