Found these two at my local fav thrift store a few weeks ago. Noticed the Police version has actual metal horns on the top. Was that a police-only version, or just an earlier version that later they did away with that? Either way, a neat variation.

The Police Launch was originally released with the horns. Later it had the horns removed. However the horns did make a return on an action 2 pack version.

It's strange that they brought them back for a couple different sets from the late 90s like the one Jeff shows some 20 years after they'd done away with them in the 70's, and then I believe they went away yet again after those sets....possibly something to do with the China and Thailand factories and which tools they had at those times, though I don't know if that had anything to do with it.

It's funny (in the ironic sense) how a 'collector' can pass on a model for decades because he doesn't particularly see it as realistic, or sees it as just a company capitalizing on an existing casting by turning a "police" boat into a "fire boat" just to make money off 'un-suspecting' children. That was pretty much my reason for only having two of these in my collection....the "Code 3" TV series version and the red/white in the first picture (which I have in a 5-pack).

In retrospect, this is a revelation to me that there's a version out there waiting for me to bring it home......both horned and not.....but especially that version with the horns! Thanks for enlightening me!
