Anyone Else Heard of These?

I was going through an 2000-2001 International Auto Parts catalog (based in Charlottesville, but they no longer offer diecast) for Alfa Romeo, Fiat, and Lancia, and found a bunch of pricey (especially for back then) 1/43 models from Best, Exem, Bang, and Progetto. Prices ranged from $25-35 back then. But, some have doubled in price since then, as some are $60. I'd love to add many to my collection (should have had my folks order them back then and put them away until now!).

I haven't heard of any of these brands.

Is anyone here familiar with these? Are any of these brands out of business?

The only one I'm familiar with is Bang. They are still around and their bread and butter is obscure racecars. Their models tend to retail for $50-70 if I recall, which is a little on the high side of middle of the road for the scale but not terribly expensive. I think I have heard of Best but know nothing about it. The other two are completely unfamiliar to me.

List of Moel car brands - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_model_car_brands

No endorsement of the shops, but you can see some of the models made...

Best Model - Italian diecast from the 1980s. Often Ferraris. Related to Bang.

Bang diecast models - Italian manufacturer, later 1980s, specializing in 1:43 Ferraris, picked up where Box Models left off.

Exem - 1:43 scale diecast. At first many variations of Austin-Healey Sprites, later many types of smaller sports cars.

Progetto (Progetto K) - Italian diecast (originally resin) of mostly Italian cars. Similar to Brumm

I have heard of Best and Bang - think toyotageek gave a pretty good answer on the background of these companies.

I went to Alfa Romeo / FIAT / Lancia car saloon seven years ago, here, in Croatia. I saw a catalog with model cars and ordered a Bburago Alfa 156 SW in 1/43 and Majorette Alfa 147 in 1/43. Bburago costed cca 4 $ and Majorette costed 5-6 $, as I remembered.

At 1994, I found in Palmanova, Italy, Brumm 1/43 models of FIAT 600 and 50's FIAT Multipla, very detailed. Each cost about 20 $, as I remember. I looked with sad eyes, but I must buy jeans, hadn't enough money for all... :-(

You might have better luck at getting them for better prices from other collectors selling them and occasionally get lucky on Ebay depending on the model. By the pictures on the internet and Ebay, Best is the best looking for the older toolings than the others available at the time. Brumm and Box are not as refined.
