Need info about french manufacturer Champion

I was looking around on ebay for politoys/polistil Penny F1 racers, I've become obsessed with mid to late 60's formula 1 cars.
Then I stumbled across a manufacturer I never heard about, it's called "Champion" apparently it's french.
Is there anybody out there who has any info on this manufacturer?

It is an older brand, made in France, close to 1/64, if not 1/64. They are plastic bodied, with metal base.

Some additional info and an ambulance from the brand, can be seen in HERE - Link to Swifty's Garage Car Of The Day.

After that Car of the Day was run, I have since acquired one model from the brand - a Chaparral 2D.

If you have a copy of the book Encyclopedia of Small-Scale Diecast Motor Vehicle Manufacturers, the brand is listed under "Safir," who actually manufactured the cars, with "Champion" being the series name for the small-scale cars. Champion is the only name that appears on the base of the cars, however (I'm guessing the names might be similar to Mattel / Hot Wheels as far as manufacturer and series...?).

Info from the book shows that the company started dabbling in small-scale in 1969, but Safir had been making other scale models since 1961.

You'll sometimes see them listed as Safir Champion, although I have no idea why as all it says on the base is just Champion. They did a lot of 1/43 scale stuff along with 1/64. I have a Porsche 917 and Ferrari P3 from them. They are plastic bodied with metal bases. They also did a longtail version of the Porsche 917 that I've been trying to find. They are hard to find as they are rare, and searching Champion brings up lots of other brands.

Thanks Dean, beat me to it while I was typing a response myself. That makes sense about the Safir/ Champion being similar to Mattel/ Hot Wheels.

Midsize
Wiki page

Excerpt
Twelve smaller Grand Prix / F1 models like the Matra MS11 V12 driver by Jean-Pierre Beltoise and a LeMans style T-70 Spyder were available in smaller 1:66 scale called "Championettes". Finally, Safir was known for its detailed plastic 1:43 scale models called "Champion" and "Super Champion" (Jean-Paul No date). There were 18 different models, but mostly these were LeMans Ferrari 512Ms, Porsche 917s in short and long tail, Chaparral 2Ds, and Ford Mark II GTs. These latter cars were made in the 1970s, packaged in clear plastic display cases, called Safir Racing, and were apparently the company's last products.

I have two long tail Porsche's in their clear boxes, a yellow #3 and a white #25

I was thinking Safir used the Champion name on the smaller series of cars. I know I still have the Renault Ambulance and Land Rover military ambulance in my collection. Used to have the Chaparral and a couple others of the race cars - might be the one Dean now has.
