Love 'em! I also like the Majorette and Corgi jr trains as well. I do see a green boxcar here I haven't seen before. The flatbed is missing its load, which if memory serves also fit one of the old box trucks and could be loaded / unloaded with a forklift also available. I think there is a side tipping car unique to a playset. I don't think I have pics, but I did get a couple of nice Code 2 issues from Pastor John awhile back, and I put them away quickly to keep them nice. There are several engines, both steam and diesel. Only a few freight cars and the one passenger car casting. |

Some of the trains were issued as part of the 1-75 lineup while others were in two packs or gift sets. As Wes noted there were a number of special made issues (similar to Color Comp models) that were produced over the years. Think I still have a few that didn't sell back then. |

The green boxcar model is not from Matchbox. It looks more like a Corgi model. |

I believe you are correct! That would explain why it seemed familiar but not quite right... |

I believe those playsets came with some scarcer variations, maybe a couple of the colors of the flat bed containers included were rarer, and then something about the yellow Diesel Shunter Engine that was included, maybe being made in yellow plastic rather than metal, something like that. I have the two pack with the yellow shunter towing the side tipping car, but finding it to add the pic here is another story.

I have a few pieces of the MB train, I intend to take a yellow dock shunter and convert it to run on HO train track. I drilled out the top, and put in a red LED already, just need to find the proper HO chassis that can work under it. Never knew about the train sets, that's the first I'd seen those. Pretty cool! Did someone say train set? I've had this for a number of years. Somehow the box is way more exciting than the actual contents. And yes it's for sale... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Hi Clem24, this set looks to have some great play-value if you ask me. In any case, a true shame that Matchbox doesn't make such stuff anymore. And indeed, these sets came with the plastic shunter which is obviously quite rare. Edited by Sergoids, Jan 27 2015, 07:50 AM.

Metal Shunter in Clem's playset, easy way to tell the plastic Shunter- undercarriage is molded in black rather than red. Maybe it was switched out. Harbor playset comes with a unique flatbed trailer for the containers |

That is the case with a lot of toy sets - the pictures on the box are much more appealing than what one finds in the box. Still - it is a nice play set that would offer hours of entertainment to rug train engineers and adults alike.

That is a gorgeous set, and were I independently wealthy I would make an offer, but I am already committed well into the next month. I do seem to recall a bit more common version of the set with a particular man's face in one corner of the box as an engineer. This is the first I've seen of the two sets shown here. |
