My cousin Tim had one of those cases. I remember when we would get together to play cars in his grandparents basement and we would carefully get his cars out of that case. I had Matchbox cases to carry mine in but always "coveted" this one.

Very cool pics Jim. I've never seen that case around before, I might have got one too if I had, it having what looks like the Mbx Pontiac pictured and all.....

...which leads me to wonder, since it appears to be a Mattel logo on the case, why Mattel hadn't included a representation of one of their own toy models on the cover.....
....unless this was a pre-HWs case, and of course pre-Superfast then, but then the purple Pontiac is a curious thing, and I wonder if a case like this is where Mbx got the idea for the color during the Superfast transition.

:D Anyway, it's a great case. Is it a 24 or 48 car case?

Yes, it's preHW. It is the same 2-drawer setup used by Matchbox. Mattel's red and white version is easier to find. This is a favorite case of mine as it stores cars very compactly while presenting the cars nicely at the same time. Plus, you can fit longer cars when you need to.

It looks like you have a Gibbs Dumper. Check out the discussion next door in the "Help, what am I?" Thread.

Oops, just realized the fucumi is the one posting both pictures. I haven't woken up yet.
I really enjoy seeing these older, obscure makes. Thanks again.

Hey Doug,

Like the MB version it is a 40 ct case , opens on the end with a snap / flap , two trays slid in from the end, cardboard inserts for the dividers, like the 30 ct GT flat case .

before mattel started the hw line they did make cases for diecast cars.i think it was an offshoot from the doll cases they where making for their barbie.i believe the case should have a stamp for around 1966.

I have a number of Mattel pre HW carry cases and even a few play cases, they have great graphics. Sounds like a new thread!

Thanks for that info MrFutura and Mike!

Jimmy, those other cases, and especially the play-cases sound like a great thread, at least I'd love to see them. I got a couple (maybe incomplete) Matchbox play-cases, they take up a lot of room, but they're great to collect.
