I can see where the base has been scratched on your car and AMT is blocked out. Here is mine. As far as I know, they were only found in green. Then Jet Wheel took over the casting and the base looks like this. Here is my AMT Pups Mustang with box. Hope this helps. Eric |

Neat.... Regarding the 'defacing' of the original AMT marking, would that be something they did at the factory during a transition phase between Jet Wheel & AMT? |

That could very well be. Actually I have also seen a Jet Wheel Mustang with 3 lines casted into the text in attempts to cross it out. Eric |

My Super Speedy Cougar has the Jet Wheels lettering obscured by additional grid lines. sounds like a common activity and shows just how hard it is to generate new dies, at least back then. |

This seems possible to me too. It's interesting that this appears it was done to the model(s) and not the die, which leads me to believe they had also acquired some preexisting stock of parts or completed models, but then, curious to me is them taking the time, and labor to do this to however many models they had....It almost seems it would be cheaper to just modify the die, produce new castings, and toss the old. I don't have a clue about this kind of stuff though, or cost producing and painting parts, it's just a curious thing. I was also thinking preproduction, and maybe something they did for that purpose, but who knows why they would. Congrats on a real nice find! |

I would say yes because the version I have looks just like this one with the base defacing. |
