Is this vehicle based on a real one?

I think it was Christian Falkensteiner that showed us a newspaper article that explained this one.
There was a design contest in the UK, and, if I remember correctly, the young guy that won was named Freeman, and his vehicle was the "intercity Commuter".
The newspaper articles showed the design that he drew only, and I do not believe that an actual vehicle would have been built.

Interesting facts about this model. I kind of always thought it was a concept model but neat to hear it was the result of a design contest. :)

Barris Industries' SuperVan has a very similar profile.

That's right, a very interesting story. For me, the first time I saw it I was almost sure this van existed. It's a pretty groovy design, very seventies. I have checked out the barris industries super van. Nice design too!

While I'm not a big van collector, I did get into this model a bit, I have a few of them. They're rather pricey at diecast shows sometimes. I like these futuristic vans/buses, they're pretty cool. I hope to use them on a model train layout dio someday.

Christian Falkensteiner lists on his photo pages as an article in a 1965 Weekend Telegraph.
Here is a link to the picture.
