New Matchbox at Walmart

A member on another board posted that Walmart was doing a reset, and was finally getting Matchbox, or at least he said they had pegs for them. So figuring I had nothing to loose I stopped by a WM near where I was working today, (I usually don't bother, because like most WM in past months, if there was a restock, it was old batches I already found elsewhere)....not today!

This is what I came home with, I was so excited to find new stuff, that I even got some castings I usually pass on.
I like the Dune Dog alright, so I was excited to find two versions.

And it even included the SEMA Skyjacker Bronco, what a great day for Mbx.

Magic Mart had stocked this batch a couple weeks ago.

Walmart, which I had visited a few days before then, seemingly had 10 or 15 Caterhams, a BMW, and maybe a couple generics, all from the batch released shortly before Christmas in most areas.

Hi Doug, I was lucky enough tonight too by finding this batch in Wally World after a very long dry spell. My favorites are the Checker and the Bronco among them. Now, I need to find the other two batches before this one. Thanks for sharing the pics.

Thanks for sharing this pictures.

Are there 2 new color variations of the DUNE DOG?
I knew about the orange one, but not the red one.
Would you have a better picture of them together?

Hi, Michael. Is the Dune Dog is base on the Toyota Lancruiser or some sort? Thanks in advance.

I believe so. At least that's what I was told. And upon inspection it looks very Land Cruiser-ish.

The MBX 4X4 is also reported to be based on the Toyota Land Cruiser, but a bit more extreme.

Because of this, I've been collecting both of them.

Thanks guys, I'm glad to share the news.

The original poster from the other board had mentioned that he discovered the reset at a WM which had stopped carrying (no peg space) single Mbx a while ago, so today I stopped at an older smaller WM in my area which had stopped carrying the singles as well, it's been well over a year without, but I found them today with reclaimed peg space and this same batch hanging there, and actually a couple new 5pks as well.

Bigcollector, I missed out on the past couple batches too, I never did find the batch(es) in my area with the purple Dodge A100....I was actually curious if this WM batch was to still include it, if so somebody already grabbed them from the WMs I visited.

Michael, I don't know how current the orange Dune Dog is, but it's the first I'd seen of it. The orange doesn't have a number on the package, so I'm guessing that is a 2014, and the red is 2015. I can post better close ups after work tomorrow, but for now I can only post some blurry enlargements cropped from my original photo of the group shot.

From the first pic I'd ever seen of the Dune Dog I thought it had TLC qualities to it, that's probably why I always liked it too...On a side note, I'm hoping one day they'll do the Forest Ranger light green type color scheme with it, seems like that would work well for it.

I'm really liking the Checker, which I haven't seen anywhere yet. Many of the others can be found at Dollar General. That's where I got my Silverado and Mustang LX.

The Dune Dog that I found the other night were two red ones, but no orange one, hum. That's odd since both came from the same batch B, I think.

Thank you Doug.
That picture is fine.
I did some digging and yes, the orange one is from 2014, while the red one is 2015.
I actually just received the orange one from a friend... so now it seems we need to hunt down another!

We will soon be making a trip down to Iowa (get to babysit two granddaughters for about a week and a half). I will have the opportunity to look in stores outside my immediate area and see if they might have better stocking of new diecast (of any brand).

Congrats on the find, Doug, that is quite the haul! Both of the Dune Dogs are better versions and I will be on the lookout for both. The Silverado is the best pick of this bunch.

I had snapped a Dune Dog(s) picture last night anyways, and then a quick shot of the Checker and Sushi truck too.

On another board a member noted today that Dollar Tree (at least those in the Pacific Northwest) is stocking Matchbox singles. I checked out my nearest DT and found stocking in progress. The cases she was opening were 2014 batch J or K (the first appearance of the Mack B pumper and including the BMW X5 silver police version; also had the "one L" Marshal car on the "one L" card....I thought that was issued much later?). So, "new" stock, but almost a year old already. Oh well, "new" is relative when only one or two batches are stocked each year.

According to Tilley's list, the Marshal car was first issued in batch K....but if memory serves me well, that first release spelled Marshall [sic] wrong on the car and the card. The transition to correcting the tampo on the model apparently put some "one L" Marshal cars on cards with "two L" illustration (never saw it in stores). Eventually the re-issued cars with "one L" matched the reissued cards with one L...but I really thought it took longer to make the transition.
