Does anybody else love this wonderful casting? I think it's definitely the nicest car Matchbox has ever made. I'm up to 15 of them now! Mostly customs, but the red Superfast is original, and one of the green cars has a silver painted base, which is fairly rare. There's a shadow in the pic, but the bottom center car is a sort of british racing green.

Nope, not a fan, sorry. I can't believe Matchbox made such boring cars back then.

I always liked the regular wheel green version with the wire wheels - I thought those were so cool when I was a kid - and better yet - a Ferrari with a tow hook!

Nice! Do you have a picture of your red regular wheel version?

I definitely don't have as many as you, but I'm content with the four I have for now. I am on the lookout for a few donors though as I want to get a mint red superfast version and green wire wheel and swap the bases to have a mint custom red with wire wheel, and also plan to eventually do a brown one. The one in the picture that's missing the tire is the only car I still own from when I was a kid so it's one of the most priceless pieces in my whole collection.

Yeah I'd like to see that red regular wheel one as well!

I've got a minty looking disc wheel in my ebay watch list at the moment. If I get it, I'll probably turn the one I have into a red disc wheel version.

Only thing that bugs me about the Ferrari, and well all Lesney Matchbox sports cars in general, is that they have a trailer hitch. Sure it adds play value, but it just does not look right. To add to that, they never equipped the Ford F-100 with a trailer hitch. When was the last time anyone here saw a Ferrari towing a trailer? Yet I'm sure most of you have seen a Ford pickup towing one.

They look great. I think the best wheel style they used were the wire wheels.

Great collection and customs!

When I was fairly new collecting, I didn't think I'd find a red SF, so I found an old beater green w/spoked wheels and painted it red, just like your custom.....I eventually did find the red SF at a toy show a few years later, but I still have the red custom because it's cool too!

A Ferrari with a hitch has been known to happen.

I will try to get a pic of the red model. My display cases are currently buried behind several bikes.
This particular car was in a Canadian blister pack. Many years ago, I released it from said packaging...which I now regret.

For the age of these cars they still are miles ahead of some of the modern cars made today.. I'm pretty sure the silver painted bases are more rare than the red SF. I hardly ever see those on ebay or TTP.

Here is my played with red. Still not bad for having some chips on it..

Those Ferraris were very nice cars for their time, in the Regular Series weren't much models with separate tire and rim, have to admit that the Regular Casting is the favourite casting for me
the Superfast one has the modern wheels who disfigure the model.

Yeah when I got my painted base one, I had no idea it was that variation. There were only a few grainy pics on ebay, which showed what appeared to be a fairly clean model for only a few bucks. So I jumped on it for just that reason. Imagine my surprise when I got the car and turned it upside down!

MBXPilot,

After the #20 Chevy Impala Taxi, your Ferrari Berlinetta is my favorite Matchbox casting. Thanks for showing us your amazing collection.

The delicate greenhouse on that mold amazes me. The roof pillars are so thin I don't know how they didn't break during the tumbling process. I don't often see that deft hand of the designer (and factory) in many of our newer models. And those wire wheels get me rolling every time.

Thanks again.

Mac

I always like this casting and have gathered a few up but not close to the variants you have pictured, very nice.
