The value of a dollar.....

This is an Ertl 'Delhi Dairy' diecast truck that I found at a Goodwill store. There was nothing wrong with it except one front wheel has a little of its chrome finish removed. I thought it might have initially been released with a trailer, but I didn't see anything near it that would have worked with it. It has a trailer hitch molded into the chassis and has ten wheels. Made in Mexico. Four and a quater inches long.

Maisto Muscle Machines 1/64 scale 1948 Ford Anglia was found at a T.J. Maxx store on closeout. Orginally they were asking four bucks for it, but cut it to three. At the checkout counter I asked if this was the latest price. The clerk left for a while and came back with a new price tag- fifty cents!!! Shocking. The Ertl was half a dollar, too.

The Anglia's graphics are pretty cool with an ice cream cone with one eye and a mouth on the ice cream scoop featured on the truck's top. On the side it reads: 'Cold Treats, So. Cali.'. What is interesting is the So. Cali..

Why did Maisto permit this to go into production with the spelling of Cali.?

Or is Cali. something other than Cal.?

Strange.

Thanks for looking...

"Cali" (pronounced "Calee / Caley" is common slang for California. It is generally used on its own, rather than coupled with "So" or "No."
Maisto's North American headquarters are in "So Cal," and a lot of California tampos have been used over the years.

Support your local demo derby.

The ERTL International tanker originated as an USA made model in Iowa. By the early to mid 90s, production was moved to Mexico and then later China. ERTL's equipment trailers along with Maisto's versions work in the tow hitch.

That's the way I remember, but I haven't been out there any length of time in almost 25 years. Nor Cal and So Cal, or just generically Cali.

Great find on the MM, gonna need to swing by the local shop here and see what's available. I was so looking forward to the relaunch of MM, but they never really materialized. Saw a few in Walgreen's (drug store) and grabbed those early on, then no more. Haven't seen them in Wally's or TrU (only hit TrU a couple times a year) or any of my other usual haunts, so I don't know where they were retailed, but at $4 a pop I think they were priced a little ambitious anyway.

Sad to see yet another make fall by the wayside. I was hoping we would see the JJs and the Nitro Coupes return eventually, but it looks like that isn't going to happen. Those would be the toolings for an enterprising start up to buy out and re-release. If I only had the venture capital...
