Today's car is Tomica Limited Vintage's 1984 Mazda Luce Limited Rotary Turbo.

Wikipedia.com

Mazda used the Luce (pronounced lu-che) name on its largest sedan in Japan from 1969 until 1990. It was exported as the RX-4 if installed with a rotary engine. The Luce nameplate was replaced by the Mazda Sentia name in 1991. The name "Luce" was taken from the Italian word for "light".

Wikipedia.com

The next generation of Luce, introduced to Japan in October 1981, was built on the HB platform. Exports again occurred as the 929. Japanese customers could purchase the Luce sold at the previously established Mazda dealerships, or the rebadged Mazda Cosmo sold at an exclusive dealership called Mazda Auto. Unlike the Luce, the Cosmo was also sold as a coupé, also exported as the 929 coupé. Cosmo-branded vehicles were installed with rotary engines only, while the Luce offered rotary, and piston-driven engines. Later in 1991, Mazda Auto locations were renamed Eunos.

Tomica has become a major player in the high detail department with their Limited Vintage series leading the way. This model was exported as a 929 out of Japan.

Awesome detail!

I am a bit confused though...I was under the impression the Rotary engine was never offered to the public with a turbo. Too powerful, is the excuse I remember reading, such motors were confined to racecars.

No idea on the rotary turbo combination....
But I didn't even know this body style was available as a Mazda 929, either. I've never seen a real one of these that I can remember. Being a sedan, of course I like it (much to the disappointment of Hosspower! LOL). I still hold out hope that one of my favorite sedans, the '92 Mazda 929 / Sentia, will be covered by TLV-N someday.

I just recently picked up this model myself a little while ago, and it is indeed very nice. I realize it's a stretch, but it reminds me of a car my mother had growing up, a Chevy Celebrity. It's lines are different enough, but hers was white with red pin stripes, so when I got this model, that was the connection I made.

Very nicely detailed TLV as usual, but far too boxy design for my tastes.

Pure 80's Japanese Econo box joy!

I'm not an 80's car guy, but I just gotta love the styling even though I hate it.

I never know if I should trust Wikipedia or not... but here's what they offer to say...

Quote:

...In 1982 a 12A turbo powered Cosmo coupe was officially the fastest production car in Japan....

Applications:

1982 - 1989 Mazda Cosmo
1982 - 1985 Mazda Luce
1984 - 1985 Mazda RX-7
