Hartoy's 1935 GMC T-70 is our truck for today.

1902 - The Grabowsky brothers sold the first Rapid truck in Detroit. It had a 2-cylinder engine and was rated at I-ton. (They had built a single-cylinder cylinder prototype starting in 1900 but it was underpowered). They then formed the Rapid Motor Vehicle Company, the first forerunner of GMC.

1912 - Trucks with GMC logos were first shown to the public at the New York Auto Show. Actually they were Rapid and Reliance trucks with the GMC brand applied. By 1913, all were GMC brand.

1927 - GMC announced new "T" series models. The 1/2-ton Panel Express and Screen Side Express were built by the Oakland Motor Car Co. (later to be the Pontiac Motor Div. of GM). Pontiac engines were used in GMC light trucks from 1927 to 1932. 1 and 2-ton models were powered by more powerful and efficient Buick 6 cylinder valve-in-head engines.

Here's another score from the 2015 St. Louis Farm Toy show. I bought this from Troy's Toys in a private room set up for trading/selling. Cab over designs of the 1930s offered up futuristic styling with a strong hint of muscle.

That is too cool! What scale does this come in at?

It's listed as 1/64. I'll do a comparison shot soon Wes with an Auto World model of some sort.

That is a very striking livery. And the model itself looks to be exceptionally done. Curious to see the scale comparison pic, if this is close to true 1/64 I may need to track down two.

These AHL/Hartoy models are close to true 1/64. I have several. S guage modelers use them quite a bit on their layouts. The Ford C cab is my favorite.

So, this would be in the years after they used English Lledo models, right?

Looks great.

I think I'll have to end up getting one of these.

I have a bunch of these Hartoy trucks in mostly Hersheys chocolate and brewery liveries. They are nicely detailed, heavy, and very well made castings.

That's a big casting! I'd be even more up a creek as far as display space, if I had 1/64 trucks like this as an active part of my collection. They sure are nice though.

Thanks Sir Crafty for doing this particular feature.
I must say that I am impressed with the casting.
I've never seen one of these casting before.
I like it.

Cheers. Cobra

These are extremely nice models. I had quite a few of the AHL trucks in Coca Cola liveries at one time - even had one that advertised American Flyer trains!
