I had these displayed at a 1:1 Mustang car show at a large Ford dealer last summer and was offered $200.00 for these 4 Matchbox Stangs. I refused because these were bought and given to me by my grandson several years ago. for a birthday present. He was so excited to give them to me. My wife had given me a Mustang party that year. Some said I was crazy, but the sentimental value is worth way more!!!
Does anyone else have any diecast that is worth more than money to them?

I have all of my childhood cars, save 4 or 5 that I lost. I still have my very first one I got when I was 5. None of them are really worth much, especially the ones that got played with hard. I'd be hard pressed to part with them though, it's understandable that you want to hold onto those for the same reasons. In other collecting areas, I have some games that I have either had since new, or acquired more recently at prices far below the going rate that I'd hold onto even if someone waggled a fist full of money in my face too.

Seems you're just the right kind of nuts to me.

The beaters.....I....I mean the well loved one I have from my childhood have a lot sentimental value for me. Even thought I have matching mint condition ones I would Never Ever sell the original ones given to me by my parents and siblings. Just holding them in my hand bring back so many memories for me I could never let them go.

Plus my Matchbox collection gives me something to do and keeps me off the streets and out of the bars. So I would never sell any of it. I'll pass it onto my kids. Maybe you could pass the set of Mustangs back to your grandson some day. I'm sure he'd love to have them as much as you have and if you get the chance I'm sure he'd love it if you could add a 1:1 mustang to the set also.

As Hobie said "Seems you're just the right kind of nuts to me."

Send me that guy's info! I have an extra of this set (a 5-pack) sitting in the garage, collecting dust! I'd rather have the $200 collecting dust!

But then again, I have no sentimental attachment to my duplicate set...

Most others in my collection are not for sale at any price.

I don't think I have many cars with sentimental value, but I know I have plenty I don't wasn't to sell no matter how much its worth.

I have just picked up this Mustang for UK£170 (around US$250). That is my biggest purchase for quite a while, yet is still quite a bargain for a red interior 1970 issue Mustang. This is the orangey-red shade, now to find a red shade too. If somebody was to turn around now and immediately offer me double to buy it off me, I would say no. I have been after it for so long, it is staying with me until the end.

As Matchbox goes, I'd have to say this set:

I've wanted one for many, many years and the stars never quite aligned, until out of the blue this showed up in my mailbox as an RAOK. I cherish it!

So yeah, I'm nutz too. Sanity is over-rated.

I have to grow older, but I refuse to grow up.

I think you know what to do. Imagine telling your grandson that you sold his gift. I know with my kids that gift giving didn't come naturally to them. Once they started, I could tell that they felt really good about it. The act of giving and seeing you happy is probably a very fond memory of his. Sorry if I'm being nosy.

Thats a great story Thanks for sharing it.

Right on how could I sell any cars that were gifted. For the most part, I would sell anything else in my collection if the
price was right.

Found this one on my 40th B-Day while visiting the US Virgin Islands with a shelf price of 2.50 and its a keeper.

Very close long time friends have a son.I have known little man since he was just a twinkle in his Daddy's eye.
He is always so excited to see me.He really likes his toy cars and knows that most times I stop by I have a treat for him.
We pull Treasure Hunts out of the package and play smash-up-derby. One summer I was camping out in my RV in their
back yard. Little man comes to me one morning and says, Eric I want to give you this car. I almost cried.

Wow! I know where I can find this set locally (in our only "antique toys" shop). I resisted buying it last month because I had a bunch of other stuff and was trying to limit my purchases in that transaction. You've got me interested in going back for another look....(I don't remember what the shop owner is asking for the set...but it wasn't too expensive).

Like others, to me gifts are special, I'd never knowingly sell them. And then there are the childhood models, they aren't going anywhere while in my care.

As far as purchased models, these three Lesney Superfast #8 Mustangs I was offered a number of years ago are pretty special to me....
I never figured I'd ever have enough to spend to even own one, let alone three different.
They were sold to me crazy cheap by this one dealer at a flea market who did know they had much greater value. he brought them to the flea market especially for me.
I use to see him there all the time, but strangely, shortly after this, I'd never seen him again.
I don't know what happened to him, but I always had a hunch these were from his own collection, and I felt like then, and still do, that he trusted me to care for them.
