Unusual & mysterious 1975 Chevy Blazer 4X4

1/25 scale Jaditoy 1975 CHEVROLET BLAZER 4x4

My diecast collection contains a few Jadi, yes, Jadi (not Jada), diecast cars in 1:18 scale, but nothing prepared me for what I found today at the local Goodwill store. The diecast 1975(?) Chevy Blazer 4x4 pick-up is 1:25 scale and features a large rack on top as well as a black camper shell. Both swivel together as one on hinges attached inside in the front of the rear tail lights. This reveals the back seat area and a panel displaying a tool well with various tools and a spare tire. There aren't any other opening panels, however. The large rack on top carried various pieces of equipment and spare tires as it has some mounting stubs molded to it. On the plastic chassis reads: "Pick-Up, Scala 1:25, Jaditoys, Made in China". For a dollar, I thought it was a very unique image and definitely some fun viewing it while researching its foreign origins.

Since the word "scala" is embossed on the chassis and is Italian, research lead to a connection with Italian Tekno Giodi diecast models. Searching Tekno Giodi diecasts lead to Bburago. In 1995, Bburago bought the moulds and tools of Techno Giodi from the bankrupt estate of the manufacturer. Interestingly, the Bburago company was located in northern Italy. It settled in the small place "Burago Molgora" in the proximity of Milan. The additive "Molgora" comes, by the way, from the river Molgora, on which Burago lies. The second "B" in the name Bburago stands for Mario "B." Esana, the firm founder. It was started in 1966 in Milan, Italy with the company Mebetoys, who manufactured miniature models made of metal in the sizes 1:43 and 1:25. In 1973 Mebetoys was sold to the American toy company Mattel. But after a short break, Mario B. Esana came together with some his former co-workers to create Martoys. In 1975 to 1976 a series of 1:24 models under the name Martoys were created. In 1977 these vehicles were produced under the name Bburago and the range was constantly extended and updated.
This Chevy Blazer may have been produced as a Martoy at this time. Apparently, Jaditoys must have acquired the rights to or bought the Blazer moulds from Bburago at some point after that. I wasn't able to verify whatever occurred between Bburago/Techno Giodi/Martoy/Jaditoy and their business interrelationships to accurately trace the Blazer's varied history. If you know, please let us know.

Thanks for reading and looking....

The info you researched is quite interesting.

Great model and a nice find, it sure looks likes yours might have had the same equipment as those safari trucks.
