Those are nice JL models - always got a kick out of the rather large gear shift in the cars. :D

Extremely well done hot rods!

I'd have to agree on the shifter. It looks like they borrowed it out of a much larger scale model.

I really never paid that much attention as to what Johnny Lightning offered when they were widely available, then they went OOB. There were a few I wanted simply because they looked good, I didn't pick them up when I saw them, and now some are impossible to find, like the John Deere '59 F-200. Like the old saying goes, "You don't know what you've got until it's gone."

Actually, the tall shifter is often accurate...just another one of those things guys did back in the day. Not fond of them myself, seems like it would get in the way...but then these were pretty much purpose built for cruisin', not parkin'.

I never was too fond of the nose on the Emperor, apart from that it rocks like the rest of them. The one I want most and still haven't found at a price I'm willing to pay is the Sad Sack. That was based on a model kit named after a WWII cartoon character. I was excited to see JL come out with these pretty accurate Tbuckets, and I grabbed all of them I have found.

they sure don't look comfortable IMO and why such a large engine it would be dang dangerous to drive something like that fast and saying that I still love them. No doubt I have spent a small fortune on these and Wesley I do have the Sad Sack lol.

Chrysler tried to build an updated street rod, remember the Prowler? Comfortable, a wimpy 6 cylinder engine and an automatic transmission, kind of boring...

Jack I just read about that car or rod and I never knew it was a 6 cylinder. The last year it was made it was pretty fast o mph to 60 mph if I remember correctly it was 5.5 seconds (close enough). The first year was a complete dog the 0 to 60 was 7 seconds plus. Overall the top end never exceeded over 130 Mph which if you drive that fast Jack you will lose your license. LOL Not trying to be a smack here just joking with you man. Got to give it to Dodge they like performance and cool looking Musclecars. This car would be cool for the Sonic Car Show. I have seen a lot of Hot Rod 32 Fords (hope that's right) at those shows with Chevrolet blocks and occasionally a Ford or Mopar block.

Don't forget Nailhead Buicks and blown Cadillac flatheads.

Which was seriously regrettable...the Prowler itself was gorgeous, just gutless, and apparently no aftermarket go goodies. All show and no go. Kinda like a lot of diecast, now that I think about it.

I think the idea with Tbuckets is to get a power to weight ratio pretty close to that of a motorcycle, that way in the hands of an experienced driver you can get straight line performance much like a bike. Mind you, this was even before "muscle cars."

Plenty of diehard old-school dissed it because it didn't have a V8 and a stick shift. It was built more for the cushy yuppy generation that followed. The SSR, I thought was cool looking but was an overweight slug. Ford's attempt at renewing the Thunderbird failed to impress also. As high tech their ideas were thought out and engineered, and as smooth as the Lincoln LS/Jaguar 3.9L V8 was, it failed to light any fires with the good ole' boys.

When all the baby boomers are gone maybe they can try it again with success, albeit with totally different propulsion methods.
