While rummaging through an HO train lot at my hobby shop, I found a box of Lesney diecast, quite a few nice ones. Greyhound bus, a VW racing bug with #137 on it, with a sign on the front bumper, an Alvis BP, a couple double-decker buses, among others. The purple motorcycle and yellow trailer caught my eye, I hadn't seen that color before. I've seen the Greyhound bus be marked up at diecast shows for 40-50, but probably doesn't sell that high. Wondered what the motorcycle would bring, any idea of value on it? I am going to try to buy the lot, as my boss only offered 50, and the guy wants more, I found quite a few rare train items I'm interested in too, so if the diecast resale will help defray the train costs, I'm going to offer more than the 50. My boss is OK with that, as he won't pay top $, he has to make money off it, I don't. I can collect. There's a powered Faller trolley bus set in the mix that is VERY hard to get in the USA, and runs over 80-100 every time I see a set on Ebay, which isn't often. Anyway, any advice on value of the Greyhound and purple motorcycle appreciated. No, I didn't get any pictures yet. Jerry |

If the motorcycle has the yellow trailer than it might be valued around $32-$44 or so. That's assuming it's in near mint shape or better. http://www.vintagebritishdiecasts.co.uk/1index/sf38-c.htm What wheels did the Greyhound have? |

Disclaimer: I don't know old Mbx well, but I have learned a little. If someone who knows mbx better than me contradicts me, go with them. From what I understand...the Greyhound bus isn't particularly rare, I'd say about $5 for a nice example without box, maybe $7 for a pristine example. I don't know how much a good or better box would add, but I do know the boxes add quite a bit to the value. Having said this...there is a "clear window" variation that seems to command a lot of attention and is highly sought. I've only seen a few examples, and always by guys showing them off, not selling. So I'm not sure of the value, but I would expect it is appreciably more than the standard yellow window variation. I can't answer on the purple bike, not sure which model it is. I'm guessing with the yellow trailer it is probably the Honda, and I don't recall ever seeing it in purple. BTW, the VW Bug in rallye livery should be a very good addition as well. Depending regular wheels, SF, transitional...I think there is a color vari as well...and just overall a desireable casting, should net in the neighborhood $10-$20 or more if it is in exceptional condition, possibly more if it is a less common vari. |

Yes, the motorcycle is mint,I didn't see any chips or anything bent or missing on it. The trailer (yellow) had a few nicks, but nothing serious. As far as the Greyhound bus...the tires were black, and smooth, is all I remember at this point. And I BELIEVE it had clear "glass", I don't remember it being yellow. But, my memory can play tricks on me. If the bus is only worth 5-7 mint, those dealers around northern Virginia are sure reaching for it, because I never see one marked under 25-30 dollars at any diecast show. I picked up a beater bus for $5 awhile back at a flea market. This one I saw is mint. |

I'm guessing the dealers are reaching...I've picked up one or two of the buses for $5 or less, and see them pretty frequently *lately* in that price range. Just did a search at TTP for Greyhound....first three were the mbx bus with yellow windows, $5, $5 and $4.99. |

It's been a number of years since I shopped for old Mbx, The SuperFast era Honda was issued in the colors of blue-green, green, purple, and pink, and varying shades of each, so being the bike is purple, the trailer should have SF wheels, Here is a link to see variations..... http://www.bamca.org/cgi-bin/vars.cgi?mod=MI838 Something to look for is the black plastic kickstand that snaps into the bottom, these are missing so often on the Honda, and I don't know how easy it would be to get a replacement. Last I remember SF issues of Regular Wheel castings were usually a bit higher valued than the RW counterparts, assuming it is not a scarce RW variation. The VW, if SF, could be either white or metallic red. The greyhound can be a better variation too if it has a colored base, they were commonly black, but they did paint some in colors as well. Sorry, I can't really help with values, since many values had dropped since I bought a lot of my old Mbx. Edited by Douglas, Mar 27 2015, 06:18 PM.
