When they were available in stores I only collected 1 or possibly 2 of the "race emergency vehicles" offered in this series, maybe because like this one, some didn't look like emergency vehicle to me, but for $1 at a local train show, this came home with me.....so my question is, what is that thing hanging off the tailgate for? To me it looks like a spreader of some sort. :D

Thanks!

One of 10K for a buck great deal!

I dunno the answer, could only guess the rear attachment might be some type of spreader to absorb oil spills ... :D

Thanks Eric, and Brian, So now it makes sense, I was wondering what lawn care had to do with race track emergencies :D , but cleaning up oil spills works for me.

There is also an Indy 500 set.
I have a bunch of these trucks from the Brickyard 400, Indy 500, and a couple of Indy Racing League Chevy trucks.
There is also an additional Chevy Tahoe vehicle that only came in the Brickyard 400 set.
That was a hard one to obtain back in the day.
The ones that I liked were the ones with the fire fighting (suppression) equipment in the back.
Thanks for the trip back in time for me when I was very actively collecting JL castings.
On a side note, back when these castings were current; the absorb-all castings with the rear spreaders weren't big sellers.

Cheers. Cobra

If I recall none of this series seemed to be big sellers. It kind of surprised me especially with the tie in to both NASCAR and Indy Car racing. They were neat support vehicles.

There were 3 p\u in the Brickyard set, the spreader and an Official truck with standard cabs and the fire prevention truck had an extended cab also the Official and fire prevention trucks have a Chevrolet logo on the hood and the spreader and Tahoe have the Brickyard logo on the hood.
Missed getting the Indy set.

I'd be happy to do that Eric, and post pics tomorrow, except I wont be shredding the package, I have no way of displaying JLs, and most are in boxes these days, so the blister shall be opened carefully and saved for storing it. :D

That's funny to me because it might explain why she had a few of these same spreader ones on the table, but none of the others. :D

It seemed like, at least from memory, weren't they kind of expensive too, or at least a little more than regular JL releases?

I think I missed the Indy set as well, all I remember is the Brickyard, but then I don't know what I have boxed away or what series the model(s) I do have is from.

I think you are right - guessing the higher price might have maybe been due to the licensing of the models with NASCAR and the Indy car folks.

I have cases of these IRL/BY400 models stored over the garage. They are left overs from my dealer days. They peaked and crashed quickly. Mainly because they weren't muscle cars. I think one set even has a WL in it.

Dealer pricing was the same on this set as other similar sets at the time.

I got the brickyard set when Kaylee started closing stores. I like the ones with the red better.

I think I like them better too, I don't really remember them Indy ones though, but they look nice in the pic.

These are one of my favorite sets ever from JL. I remember buying a sealed case of the Brickyard set back in the day, I have a set carded and a set loose now.

I want to add the Indy fire crew truck. I have the BY400 fire crew. Never saw the others, nor knew they existed. Got my BY truck at KayBee's Toy Liquidators stores not too long before they closed down.

They remind me of the first USFS fire truck I crewed.....Chevy with tank/PTO pump and two bucket seats facing the rear in the bed.

Might post a couple pics of that Chevy pumper if I can get Photobucket to open them in the editor, and if no-one minds in here. Amazingly similar to the Indy trucks, except a decade or two older model truck a decade or more before the model year of the JL models. Was surprised and delighted when JL released trucks that reminded me of the first pumper I rode to forest fires.

I might add that my BY400 fire crew has the BY400 logo on the hood, not the Chevy logo.

Ah, what the heck.....let's try this:

That's the other one I think I have, with the equipment in the back, (not the 1/1 :D ), but I'm not sure what logo is on the hood.
