Car of the Day for April 28, 2015 is the Greenlight 1968 Plymouth GTX

The Plymouth GTX was introduced as the Belvedere GTX in 1967 by the Plymouth division to be a "gentleman's" muscle car.

In 1968, after one year of production, the GTX was given a completely new look. A new hourglass body replaced the more box-like body of 1967. The Road Runner was introduced by Plymouth as a performance version of the Belvedere.

There were major changes made in the design of all the Plymouth B-bodies. The Road Runner's base engine was the new 383 cu in (6.3 L) "Super Commando" V8 (renamed the "Road Runner 383"), while the high performance 440 was still standard in the GTX.

The TorqueFlite automatic transmission was standard on the GTX, with it being a US$206 option in the Road Runner. The GTX used the Sport Satellite trim and was offered in two models, the two-door convertible and the two-door hardtop. The Road Runner used the Belvedere trim, and had less insulation and comfort items (padding, vinyl roof, trim), which reduced weight, helped produce better track times, and kept it in the low price field.

I like muscle from all of the big three, and even some AMCs and Studebakers...but I just have a big soft spot for MoPars.

Muscle Car
:D There was nothing slow about the GTX. As I have shared in the past, had a buddy in high school who had a '69 and man could that thing fly! Remember many "foolish" trips at 120 mph doing stupid and I mean stupid things such as drinking. How we survived our teen years is sometimes truly amazing! Anyway - so much for memories - nice casting from GL.

There was a GTX in my high school parking lot too, a triple-black 1971 model. It's owner wasn't afraid of the local cops, and would do burnouts anywhere, at any time, just for the heck of it.

He's been a cop himself for the past 25+ years!
