Down on the Farm - in Japan

Have no idea what an old farmyard in Japan would look like, but I imagined it would have old Japanese vehicles for working on it.

I was actually just going to show my new (old) stake truck I picked up at the train show the other day, but thought I'd make a little scene surrounding it. :D It has the fully chromed wheels, so figure it must be a pretty early issue.

The question is, should it have come with some kind of livestock to ride in back, or is it just how it was issued?

Nice Japanese farm scene - like you I would guess it would be similar to most farms with equipment - in this case Japanese items. The first versions of the Toyota stake truck, if I recall, did not come with any critters in the back. I think those started being added with later issues of the stake truck.

Cool! Pretty close to the real thing. ^_^
Typically you see a lot of Kei trucks and cars in the country and on farms.

Thanks guys!

Thought I'd show a few of my other farm related vehicles, not all necessarily Japanese makes, but still Tomy's,

The orange Kubota also came in an Aviva version with a Snoopy character in the seat. I'm not sure offhand which it is though.

Yes, I've wondered if something was missed in their translation to English, and maybe they meant "Horses To Let" or something like that.
I don't really know what they mean. :D

Thanks guys! I enjoy getting the models out for pics, even gives me a chance to enjoy them a little better than in their cabinet or storage case.

Matt, I really like old wagons too, I'll try to post some pics of the wagon later, or maybe I'll take pics of the few Tomica wagons I have, don't have but a few in my collection anyway.

Amongst its more usual uses "to let" was an old term used for "to rent" or some such similar meanings, like "rooms to let", was to have rooms for rent. I'm not sure of the origin, but maybe it has a connection to do with "letting" or "allowing" someone to use your property....

I'm only guessing here, since I have no idea if that old term would have ever actually been used for renting horses, nor any idea what Tomica was thinking. :D

Sometimes, there simply is no reason or meaning.

I can't think of any examples right now, but I something I learned from my wife, who is a native born & raised Japanese, is that the Japanese like English words and will put sometimes seemingly random words together because it sounds cool or funny to them. Really. ^_^

Thanks for the comments guys, glad you like them!

And thanks for that info Michael, I can understand them doing that with words, it not only might put a smile on the designers faces, but we still enjoy the model, and even enjoy discussing the strange wording. :D
