That Mustang is probably rather confused about now. First it gets sent to a new home, then as soon as it's settled, it's back to the old home! It must have missed playtime with the cats.

:toy: Ok...finally a little time to entertain the Traveling Mustang and his return home. For those who do not know, the Mustang originally came from my collection and sold to 69ch a while back. It is kind of fun to have the car come home for a visit. It is to bad I didn't have him back in June when I really could have taken him home! :) My roots are in a small farming community 25 miles west of Spokane on US Highway 2.

Posted Image
The Mustang came to Reardan back in the late 60's when Hot Wheels were the newest thing in the toy departments. Yes, department stores actually had rather large toy departments and most likely this little guy came from The Crescent - a large downtown department store in Spokane in those days (part of the Marshall Field family). My parents were very supportive of my toy cars and collecting but for some reason my mom really did not like Hot Wheels - think part of it might have been they cost more than Matchbox and they represented "fast cars". :) The background in this picture is the community center in Reardan - I know the Mustang was there at least once as we had Boy Scout meetings there and I remember having a display of cars for some father-son banquet. The grain elevators are the community landmark - been there since the '50's are are still standing.

Posted Image
A guy in town restored these old steam tractors and had some trailers made to pull behind so that kids could have rides curing the Community Mule Days celebrations. :)

And so the return home...but hey...the house is now blue. When the Mustang left it was, what I like to call Air Force Khaki (ick). The blue is a definite improvement!
Posted Image

Posted Image

And what's this...PJ had a nice red car with a blue oval on the front and now he has a car/van with a crooked H.
Posted Image

Ah, but it is good to see he still goes pheasant hunting...of course one of these days he might try using a gun instead of the car!
Posted Image

And inside the house there was gold carpet in the living room...but it was gone - Just in the one of the bedrooms now
Posted Image
but some of my friends are still here - another "Stang and a Cougar (this house has all kinds of cool cats!)

And look at this nice, shiny new floor - man can we go fast across this!
Posted Image
Yup...I can still outrun that blue Stang and the Cougar too! This floor is slick...and Mrs. PJ just told us no burn outs on her new floor so off to the basement we go.

Yum...look at those nice cucumbers from her garden! They are my size!
Posted Image

And before we head downstairs...anyone for a little music - is this the new theme song of North Dakota by chance?
Posted Image

And more changes...man once a guy leaves they decide to change everything!
Posted Image

Ah...something very familiar - Dick's Body Shop...time for a stop to check out a couple of PJ's Edsels - fellow Hot Wheels, you know!
Posted Image

Lookie, lookie...I fit in the trunk!
Posted Image

And a ride on a pink Edsel with Mr. Brownie driving
Posted Image

Look at that engine - an E-475 V-8 - did you know rumor has it PJ beat a Mustang with his Edsel in a drag race years ago...hard to believe a Mustang wouldn't win...but look at this engine.

Great write up and pictures John. Wow thats so cool, I didnt know this Mustang was one of your childhood cars.

Maybe there is a pic of you somewhere holding the car at the Boy Scouts meeting ... :)

Glad to see the home improvements coming along nicely.

Anyways Thanks for the peek into your neighborhood.

It never seems to fail - company comes and life gets busy. Finally a little time this afternoon to show the Mustang around before he gets ready to head for his next stop

Posted Image
Sunflowers are a major crop here -

Posted Image
Wild sunflowers that grow along the road - years ago in my first trip through North Dakota that was the one thing I remembered - the median of the Interstate was filled with wild sunflowers!

Posted Image
No those aren't file cabinets sitting out in the middle of a field - those are bee hives and yes there were bees flying around when I parked the Mustang - good thing this is a fast car!

Posted Image
Can you find the Mustang in the hay bale?

Posted Image
Still hanging out in the hay - wonder what that straw will do to the engine?

Posted Image
John Deere Green - and there is a lot of "green" around here

Posted Image
Anybody want to guess the cost to replace one of these tires...or the wheel for that matter?

Posted Image
Still hanging out with the combines - it is wheat harvest season here - sunflowers are not harvested until after the first hard frost

Posted Image
And still on the John Deere - wonder what would happen if the 'Stang found a can of John Deere green paint? :D

Posted Image
From sunflowers and combines...to being stuck in a tree...not a lot of trees in ND but we do have some (my wife thinks otherwise but then she is originally from the Missouri Ozarks!)

Posted Image
Anybody here remember Western Union - sign in the old Elgin, ND train depot - now used as a museum

Posted Image
Found the sign for City Hall - could a Mustang be mayor?

Posted Image
Let's save some gas and ride the rails! Old caboose on display at Elgin, ND museum. Originally on the Northern Pacific Railway - later became the Burlington Northern - trains no longer run through here but have a caboose to remind us of those days

Posted Image
Notice the caboose is also green - I think the Mustang likes green things!

Posted Image
Still trying to hitch a ride on the train

Did you know they have giraffes in North Dakota?
Posted Image
Years ago my youth took a vacant lot in downtown New Leipzig and turned it into Noah's Park

Posted Image
Some more of the park fence

Posted Image
Found this old fountain in storage and felt it would be nice in the little park - a part of the community's early history

Posted Image
No traffic jam today - some days you can find a combine parked on Main Street.

Wow great show! I really like all the farming pics. Found Waldo in every image, that was fun!

I also like the danger shots and I think the bees take the cake.

Will soon be sending the Traveling Mustang on its way but thought I would allow it to roam around the basement and share some of my collection with you. We won't talk about the army spiders that are down there and dust bunnies - all of which have taken over the Hot Wheels Army Toys

:toy: can you find the Mustang in a sea of Edsel's?
Posted Image

And more Edsel's
Posted Image

And bigger Edsel's - might have to have a contest someday and let you guess how many Edsel models I have in my collection.
Posted Image

And Studebaker's too!
Posted Image

Admiring one of the Doc Hudson's Piston Cups. :)
Posted Image

Just a few of the police cars in my collection
Posted Image

And time to relax and enjoy Smokey and the Bandit...

Things didn't go as planned this past week or so - so no road trips for the Mustang before he hit the road and headed south for Texas. Probably a good thing as we have a frost advisory for tonight. :D Anyway a few final pictures of the traveling Mustang checking out some of my collection before he hit the road.

A cup of coffee and on the road we go...next stop Texas

Fantastic host John so much eye candy. Sharing is what the hobby is all about and such a wonderful presentation.

Good news, one of your childhood toy cars is on the way to its next adventure.

Fun Yay!

Cheers

This past Saturday, Waldo made one of his bonus events for his week stay here in Texas - to the Denton Square Arts Antiques & Automobile Show.

Here he is traveling the hills of a custom bike seat and enjoying the show venue vista!

On Wednesday, we drove cars across the auction block at Mecum in Dallas. Where do you start? (Looking out over the early arrivals for Saturdays auction lots.)
