Been to busy with the auction block to process more photos, but here is aother one from Wednesday of Bill Stevens before the auction action started. Bill does commentary for Mecum and is one of the hosts of the TV series Corvette Nation - amoung many other things!

This guy is Stephen Cox. He also does commentating for Mecum and is race car driver, TV producer and CEO of Sopwith Motorsports. He said his favorite car is the Mustang! (I did notice that Sopwith runs a Corvette on the track though!)

More fun pics!

I have to wonder on the Rodeo and Bronco, if it is really worth paying to have those cars go up for auction, as opposed to just putting a sign in the window at a local parking lot? Does an SUV with 163 thousand miles actually sell for enough of a premium at an auction, versus selling curbside, to more than cover the auction costs?

I would imagine that Bronco would be a fairly nice vehicle, so I imagine that it would be worth auctioning. Those things aren't cheap, and from here on, they're only going to rise in value. They were the last true domestic SUVs that had any real beyond-pavement capabilities.

The Izuzu went for $1500, so no I dont think it was worth auctioning that one off. On the other hand the buyer got a cheap clean vehicle.

The Bronco went of $12,000, and yes was probably worth it. It was an exceptional vehicle. Looked show room fresh inside and out!

The auction costs are 18%. Buyer pays a fee and 8% and seller pays 10%. Those percentages are often the negotion area used to complete a sale during the auction or afterwards at the bid goes on booth.

You have to register with Mecum to see the auction results, but here is the link...

Friday was even more hectic, but I managed to grab a few more shots...

Roadrunner

Posted ImagePosted Image

Chevy Apache - This truck was the most optioned and baddest truck I have ever run across from this era. Four wheel drive with a NAPCO power option.

Off by one year, but the closest match I found on the floor to Waldo!

I spent most of the rest of the day tugging vehicles to the stage, but did get assigned to this late entry which turned out to be the last lot of the day on Friday - a red MB SL500 Convertible.

The Dallas FD had a pumper unit on hand each day and Waldo stopped by to say "Hey" on Saturday. Both fireman present talked about their red lines they used to have!

Final truck for the day!

I'm surprised the Bronco didn't fetch more. I routinely see them selling here/on eBay for $15k+ for nice ones. Eddie Bauers are even more.

That's the point I was making. Put it on a street corner for $11,500, in that condition, and he'd probably have a buyer, and still be ahead of the game over the $12,000 minus 10%.

And the Isuzu, not knowing the mileage or overall condition, I'd say he probably could have sold it for AT LEAST $1500, curbside.

I agree there are people who will buy them (I'd take a Bronco), but neither of those are at a demand status where people will bid them up to crazy prices.

But I guess there is something to be said for the element of the unknown, and wanting to see if your prized vehicle will go for bonker money if you put it up for auction.

Mileage does have a big impact on price, but Broncos are showing a steady increase across the board right now! I have another photo showing the Izuze Rodeo at 143k for mileage.

Thanks! I wish I had had more time to take pictures. The auction line moved really fast and they had a shuttle (golf cart) picking us up as we got out of one car - that took us to the next one in line this year.

The fireman pictured offered to set up a ladder - so I could get on top of the pumper and use the full Dallas Fire Department name in a photo - I passed on that!

69ch will not be able to finish out the travel arrangements for the Mustang, but has okayed me to continue the "Scheduled Travel". (Dont ask for details, just roll with it, please.) I looked back at the thread posts and see the people listed below who want to host the Mustang. Barracude68 took a pass - do you want back in?

I prefer to have the Mustang forwarded in the order posted - so once Hobie-Wan gets it and finishes up with his hosting time - please contact the next person on the list by PM for their address. The last person to host the Mustang can contact me directly and I will help get the Mustang back to Eric at the end of the adventure, if needed.

Wow, great show! I love how you placed the car and framed the photos in all the in car pictures, but this one in particular I love how it's sitting on there and framed through the steering wheel. Looks like a really fun auction. I'm bummed I completely forgot about it. As for the order, that should work for me. I won't be able to do anything with it until after October 11th at which point I'm completely open, but with Hobie-won and Sirentoys ahead of me, I imagine it will be later than that before they are both done with it.

That was sorta fast! Remember it is not a contest, Eric wanted to see things that are interesting to you or where you live - I like car shows and the DFW area has at least one type of car related event almost everyday of the year!

Thanks for the kind words 250tr and the feedback on placement.

This truck photo was a lucky placement - as the control knobs where the only place where the Mustang wouldnt roll off of! I did have to lean forward to frame it though!

The owner and builder (Eddie) and his son (Eddie) road along with me onto the stage. This was his 3rd truck to do and first auction. Little Eddie had Hot Wheels in his pockets! Diana (the lady at the start of the "staging lane") saw them and brought him a carded Mecum diecast and some Mecum stickers just before we moved along.

He was also surprised when I pullled "Waldo" out of my own pocket and showed it to him and his Dad - telling him it was twice as old as his Dad!
