Today's car of the day is Revell's 1982 Buick Regal.

Wikipedia

The Buick Regal is a mid-size car introduced by Buick for the 1973 model year. A downsized Regal appeared for 1978. A major facelift in 1981 gave the Regal a much more aerodynamic profile, helping make it possible for the car to compete on the NASCAR racing circuit. The sloping hood and nose of the car made it the favorite of several NASCAR teams.

The Revell lowrider series featured some very nice castings, but few ever made it to stock appearing releases. The Regal casting saw several releases in the lowrider line, but it was one that was never used as a stock model. The lowrider customization is a turn off for a lot of collectors, but I still appreciate having a model car represented in scale, even if customized. The Revell Regal has an opening trunk lid and axles that raise and lower.

Wikipedia

V8s for street use were still available, but had shrunk to 265 cu in (4.3 L) (1980 and 1981 only, Pontiac built), and the V6 was rapidly gaining popularity. In 1982, a new Century appeared on the front-wheel drive A-body, but the former rear-wheel drive Century sedan and wagon were not discontinued. These models were simply rebadged as Regals, and for the first time the name appeared on a full model lineup. The wagon was discontinued after 1983, and the sedan dropped from the lineup the next year. From 1986 to 1987, the 5.0 L 307 V8 was available as an option. The 3.8 2-bbl V6 was standard. The 200-4R overdrive transmission was an option with either engine.

I must say that is an ugly car for every side, but it is so ugly it is cute. And being pink, I would have to add it to my collection - when I come across one! Posted Image

Had an '84 with the oddfire V6. Nothing spectacular, just a modest appliance that got from A to B. I like the styling, and surely with a V8 the performance would have improved drastically. Not my favorite of the cars I've owned, but certainly not my least favorite.

I missed this one in the small cache of Revell's I found in a Beall's store years ago. I do remember the Cadillac and the 96 Caprice, and putting them back on the shelf...mistake I've long regretted. I grabbed everything else I saw at the time....lots of nice old Chevys!

I'm not really a fan of lowriders or the tiny wheels, but that's a nice looking car otherwise. Would look good with some regular meats.

Nice, Revell is one of my favorite brands mainly because I like some the car choices and the adjustable suspensions. I don't hate lowriders but its not my favorite styling

:toy: Wow...that is colorful. I am one of those who passed on this casting because it was a low rider - kept thinking Revell would offer it in stock form sometime...but as we all know they never did and soon they were gone from the small scale diecast world.

How is this casting size wise compared to the overly large in my opinion RC/JL Regal/GN casting?

I think I'm in the minority in NOT regretting passing up the opportunity to have bought one of these. I'm one of the guys who only buys what I like and, well, this is a car I don't like. That's OK, I don't regret passing up the opportunity to buy ANY of the cars from this series. In the case of this Not-So-Regal: It's hot pink. It's a low-rider, so it has those ungainly tiny little tires and wheels (and the wheels are also pink, no less!) The stripes are atrocious. Not for me, no thank you! On the other hand, I do know a Mary Kay lady who might like it. Her daily driver is a pink Nissan Sentra.

I understand your pain, Jim. But, I am the kind who buys dang near everything as far as small scale model cars go, if I can believe someone, somewhere, would be driving the real thing on the road somewhere. I love the idea of miniature worlds / dioramas with cars represented from all walks of life. That being said, for being a pink lowrider, it is a very well done pink lowrider.

A bit smaller. The Revell fits in a standard Plano case slot, with all four tires touching the bottom, whereas the JL / RC cannot. The Revell line was supposed to be true 1/64, and I do believe that they were, based on the size of the boattail Riviera and full size pickups, compared to the Civic and Focus.

Thanks for the comparison photos. I was surprised the Revell Regal was that close in size.
