Today's car of the day is Unifortune / RMZ City's 2013 Scion FR-S.

Wikipedia

The 86 is a series of sports cars jointly developed by Toyota and Subaru and solely manufactured by the latter. It features a boxer engine, front-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout and 2+2 seating. It is sold worldwide under three different brands with respective model names: Toyota 86 in Asia, South Africa, South America and Australia; GT86 in Europe; both of the preceding names in New Zealand; FT86 in Nicaragua and Jamaica; Subaru BRZ worldwide; Scion FR-S in the US and Canada. The development code of this vehicle is 086A and its main production names 86 (pronounced "eight-six" or Hachi-Roku in Japanese, but more commonly pronounced as "eighty-six") or GT86, leverage historic Toyota front engined and rear-wheel drive sports coupes and hatchbacks.

I am really impressed with the Unifortune / RMZ City diecast, but sadly, as nice as they are, I've only been able to find them for sale online. This is the caliber of model Matchbox should be producing, and people would be buying them up like crazy, but because Unifortune doesn't have the same brand recognition as the big players, they don't get much attention from collectors, nor any retail shelf space. I wonder how well Unifortune is doing with sales, and if they can stay in the game long enough to bring us more model selections.

Wikipedia

The Scion FR-S is exclusive to the United States and Canada. Its name is derived from a description of the platform: Front-engine, Rear-wheel drive, Sport. Unlike all other 86 variants, the FR-S originally had no trim levels and are all offered with Scion's BeSpoke stereo system. Scion made a unique marketing decision in the United States, creating the 'First 86' program to allow 86 buyers to take delivery of their cars before the general public sales. On January 12, 2012 users had eight hours and six minutes to submit their requests to a program website. Winners were required to take their confirmation number and $500 to a dealer within 96 hours to claim their cars.

Nice! I really need to get the proper version.

I got this Junior Line one in Japan for Y364 (around $3US)
at a discount type store, so yes not exactly cheap.

The Unifortune/RMZ City models are very nice looking. I don't have any in my collection but do like what I see. Here is another nice brand of diecast that isn't in stores (of course that is basically true of Matchbox and other in many ways). I miss the days when stores had full aisles of various brands of diecast.

Nice. Another one to add to my list. I have several RMZ that were sent to me by a friend living in Germany. I've not been able to source them locally in the US. Guess I'll have to search harder now. Dean, did you find it on eBay or from an online dealer?

EDIT: Oh, Dean & Rob..... what size are the ones you've shown. The RMZ I have are approx 1/64, but I know they make 1/36 that come in display tray boxes.

These are 1/64-ish (more accurately, they are probably 1/60). COTD will always feature exclusively small-scale models.

A bit of trivia: early on, there was a week of 1/43 models feature for COTD, but it was decided by members and staff that we would focus exclusively on small scale for COTD (so 3" and/or 1/76-1/55 scales).

I sourced mine through a contact I met through an ebay listing. They had a variety listed for sale, and I asked about getting one of everything they had, and they responded with an offer that was very reasonable, and an option to get a lot more from their source-warehouse, where ever that was, so I got stocked up in short order, but essentially, it was an ebay thing.

As you can see by comparing mine with Rob's, the casting comes with either Scion tampos or Toyota tampos. I don't yet have any of the Toyota version, but I have seen them with the same interior and tires as are on the Scions.

I have four colors. Here are the other three:

Definitely one to look out for in the future! Unifortune has done a really good job on this model, and it's awesome that they decided to put both Toyota and Scion badging on their model (considering how the latter is only available in North America).

Thanks Dean. These are definitely going on my "have to find list".
