Racism is a load of crap... automatically envisioned as white over black . If one looks at the stereotypical definition a racist uses , as many white people fit the profile as do blacks. Any person is capable of accomplishing what ever they wish if they work to reach the goal they wish to reach. Having grown up in Canada I didn't grow up with the deep south quote un quote distrust of minorities. In my three years living in the US south I experienced reverse racism from a very small percentage of my people because I was the white guy running the job site, not because of the way I managed my crews. Here in Canada I've met too many people of non white or black backgrounds the carry major hard ons for ethnic groups of another than their own that have been brought from the old world. :duh: Come on people learn to get along ! Racism in Canada isn't defined by the same white vs. black dynamic that often defines it in the US. Additionally, Canadians love to use American racism to distract from our own issues, especially regarding native peoples (but also some groups of immigrants). This is something that's been on my mind a lot because there's been quite a bit of it floating around my workplace in the past few weeks (directed towards the Sikh guys) and because regularly if I mentioned being a native person I'll hear some sort of negative stereotype or complaining about treaty terms that The Crown agreed to. It's a lot easier to focus on other people's issues than to start looking at our own. (American northerners seem to play the same game with the south sometimes, but that's a whole 'nother rant...)

There is no such thing as "reverse racism."
Technically, what you say is true. Racism is racism no matter the source.

In practice, it isn't. Certain groups are not allowed the appearance of racism without the pouncing and trouncing of the PC police, but other groups appear to get free reign without recourse as if they are somehow entitled. Prejudice is prejudice, no matter the source. Reverse discrimination is still discrimination. Until the PC police understand that, it will continue.

And trust me....discrimination goes WAAAAY beyond skin color. I live with it DAILY.

*<puts on mod hat for a moment> I do wish to remind not to get too political, and the moment this discussion does get too political there will be no choice but to shut it down. As long as we keep it outside of politics directly, we should be OK. <removes mod hat>

We now return you to your regularly scheduled program... :D

Reverse racism is MSI Car.

Mindless Self Indulgence is not a band that's know for having a car 'mascot' like ZZ Top, The Monkees, The KLF, or Information Society. :P

I was just using Camry as a ubiquitous reliable car that a lot of people own, but they might not be car people and just drive it without really caring or knowing details as long as it gets them where they're going comfortably. :)

Hey! That's my signature!

I got poked in the eye a while back so I am just listening now.

I wasn't aware racism was a political issue.
Not political in the sense of 'connected to the system of governance', or in a partisan sense, or in a left vs. right sense (although it will often be more closely identified with groups defined by nationalist and/or nativist tendencies) but definitely in the sense of 'of, for, or relating to citizens'. If you prefer, we can call it socio-political.

Regarding political correctness, that's not a left vs. right issue either, and some of the biggest complainers about political correctness when 'the opposition' does it are also the biggest enforcers of it on other issues.

Just an idea...

Maybe a 'divisive topics' sub-board might be worth considering. Make it members only, like the Tom Z. boards and the sales board, and the first rule is whatever happens in there stays in there. I may just be idealistic though with my belief that we could argue topics passionately in there and not have the drama spill over into the main forum - even if we initially promise in good faith.

Plan B: Swifty's invades NationStates' General board.

As entertaining as that sounds, I don't foresee Swifty signing off on it...

It's something we've considered in the past and decided not to do. Suffice it to say that if your post is too, shall we say, "passionate" for the public area or the forum, it just doesn't belong here. You guys are welcome to carry such discussions on via PM (keeping in mind that PMs on this board can be reported and are subject to staff scrutinization if they are reported), email, another board, etc...just not here ;)

Many people these days hardly notice when our green light changes back to yellow then red again when we hadn't even moved.

The violation = TWIT (Texting While In Traffic)

We just need a special TPTF (Text Police Task Force) :D

Not really. We just need people who are behind the wheel of *ANY* vehicle to put away all communication devices and other distractions and...well, I would think obviously...DRIVE! I'd rather the IDIOT with the phone/text/whatever distraction wasn't driving on the road beside or behind me, but I'd be seriously tempted to get out of my car, walk up and place a roofing nail in the pavement just ahead of their rear tire while they were distracted. Wouldn't solve the problem immediately, but I would get a sense of fairness in the universe for their selfishness and stupidity.

Short of that, revoke their license to drive...indefinitely...before they kill someone's child.

Or in the words of one of my favorite bumper stickers... If that cellphone was up your anal orifice, I bet you'd know how to drive!

No incoming call/fax/text/whatever is worth your life...or more importantly, the life of someone else.

I read recently that one of the most common "last text messages" received by people in car crashes...was "LOL"

Seriously? That can't wait long enough to save someone's life, possibly your own?

Not something that greatly upsets me, but it is a little annoying to see someone gone with no explanation as to why. Not that an explanation is owed to anyone, but other forums that I frequent state the reason why a user is no longer on the site. I have found that it serves as an effective warning to others.

We don't usually keep it a secret here, but we don't make big announcements either. If someone wants to know what happened to a specific member that was removed from the site, they can just ask ;)

My reasoning is that the drama just needs to end sometimes and I don't want to intentionally propagate it.

Why do people bother putting OBO on ebay auctions if they aren't going to reply, even if it is a decline... twice? *sigh*

Yup, been there too. It's not like it's hard to send a "no" in response. A lot of times the OBO isn't intentional though, when you list something as a buy it now, the box is automatically checked to allow offers, so you have to manually uncheck it each listing.

Fair enough, except the first offer expired and the item auto relisted as my offer expired a day before the end date. So it went right back up, I waited a few days, and sent and offer again... which went unanswered.

I sent a message asking about being ignored and they finally replied and they did an ebay offer at the price I'd put both times. They have mostly good feedback, but they do have a <1% smattering of negatives and neutrals, so I'm deciding if it's worth the bother.

Happy ending. I gave it a shot and all turned out well. One more of my games now has a box.

Why is that guy Lamar Odom getting so much attention for his health to improve? He's his own worst enemy and embarrassing for his family I would imagine.
