What to post, when new to a forum??? Thought iīd start with a recent arrival: ![]() According to the collector, who has sent me this model in a trade, this was a special edition made by Tomy for an american police car fair in the early 80īs. Does anyone know more about this fair? |

Welcome Tyrolese! It is good to see another familiar name from the old days of MCCH. Congrats on a great looking model! I don't know much about the van or variation, I only remember one was listed in an old Tomica mail order list (1990's), think it was Bob Blum's list, anyway I remember it had a really high price on it then, so needless to say, I don't have one , Although I do have US Mail version of this casting. On a side note, I believe the police department represented is Norfolk Virginia, USA. At least it's the only Norfolk I know of, and it comes to mind because I once lived there. |

Welcome to the Garage Tyrolese - great to see you posting here! Like Douglas I remember seeing this van listed on Bob Blum's list way back when but always out of my price range. I don't remember all the details other than it was a special issue made for the Norfolk, VA police department. I always thought it was interesting that they had Tomica do the promo model for them rather than Matchbox or Hot Wheels - other than Tomica had this nice walk through van in their lineup.

Welcome aboard, Tyrolese! I recall your name, though I was a casual observer at the other site. I do know kangaroos are not in Austria! I don't know anything about the Police Fair, but I seem to recall there is also a Norfolk, Nebraska. I lived in Norfolk, Virginia for a time, but I don't recall ever seeing anything like this. |

Funny thing, while standing by the bookcase this morning I noticed a folder I use to (still do I guess) keep a few old Tomica lists in, looked inside and found a couple of Bob Blum's for sale booklets..... Here's the front of one from 1998, I blocked his address and phone number because I have no idea if he still sells Tomica, or at least he might prefer to keep his home address private these days and use a PO Box. ![]() Below is part of a page that shows the listings of the F-53 Dodge Step Van. I know $25 doesn't seem bad today, but 17 years ago that was a decent sum of money for me to pay for a model. ![]() |

Thankīs for showing that list. Was he in the die cast business or just a collector selling extra models? $ 200,00 for the blue Caddy Ambulance, wow, that one must be really rare....

He was a regular dealer as far as I knew, he would usually have the new line available as well, he might have collected too though. The prices then may have changed quite a bit over the years, some higher some lower, remember then I think ebay was still fairly new, so I wouldn't think the world diecast trade market was opened up near as much as today. I don't remember too many people I knew who even had internet back then, I only had a dial in email service myself, If I wanted to get or send email, my computer dialed a number, downloaded the emails, and then disconnected, until I wanted to check again.

If I recall, Bob made trips to Japan to purchase much of his stock - he was probably the largest Tomica dealer in those days - and we all got along fun with his print out descriptions - no pictures or anything like we have today - and we would purchase from the list. I believe Bob still does sell Tomica but now has his business online. The other guy I remember selling a lot of Tomica back then was James Wieland out of Connecticut. |

I've never dealt with Bob, but I think he's still around. CarreraRSR posted on HT that he still deals with Bob. He mentioned Bob's email as being tomysource@... There happens to be a seller on eBay that goes by the user ID of Tomysource, but I don't know if it is Bob since the store is called "SANDY'S AUTO MINIATURES". |
