Today's car bus of the day is from corvairjim's collection, and is Matchbox's 1966 Daimler Fleetline Double Decker Bus.

Wikipedia

The Daimler Fleetline was a rear-engined double-decker bus chassis built between 1960 and 1983. It was the second of three bus models to have a marque name as well as an alphanumeric identity code. The other two were the Freeline and the Roadliner. The Daimler Fleetline was the second rear-engined double deck bus chassis to be launched by a UK manufacturer, following Leyland's introduction of the Atlantean in 1958. From the outset, the Fleetline had a drop-center rear axle fitted as standard, enabling low-height bodywork to be fitted without necessitating an inconvenient seating layout in part of the upper deck, as was the case with early Atlanteans.

Wikipedia

The prototype Fleetline was fitted with a Daimler engine, but when production started only Gardner 6LX or 6LW engines were offered. By 1968 Gardner's new and more powerful 6LXB was also an option, and in 1970 Leyland's 0.680 engine became available. Gardner engines had an excellent reputation for reliability and economy while Leyland engines were more lively and more thirsty. Most Fleetline customers preferred Gardner engines, but the Leyland engine became popular - particularly for a period in the 1970s when Gardner could not meet demand. The first prototype Fleetline was unveiled in December 1960. Between 1960 and 1973, the Fleetline was manufactured in Coventry, with production then transferred to Farington.

 Love those double deck buses from England! Years ago I always thought they were all red so was surprised when Matchbox released this one in green and cream colors. It was also neat that for a period of time they had this one and the No. 5 London Bus in the line up at the same time. Even now, concentrating on emergency vehicles in my collection, I find myself still bringing home one of the newer Routemaster Buses when I find them. :D

New casting? Quick! Take it apart!
I am slowly finding variations of MBX buses, and adding them to my collection. Of course I can't afford mint quality, but I grab what I can afford and maybe hope for a few trades later.

The Quest Continues
Nice choice. I had the beige one, and never knew of the red or green ones until much, much later!

As PJ said, love those double-decker buses! I don't have many of them, but I grab them when I find them at a reasonable price for the condition. The fading on the right-side sticker was this one's worst demerit. I don't remember just what I aid for it, but as I recall I got a bunch of change from a $10 bill for this one at last year's Diecast CARnival. This is my first Lesney double decker in a color other than red.
