Today's car bus of the day comes from Stampede's collection, and is Tiny's 2012 Toyota Coaster Police Bus.

Wikipedia

The Toyota Coaster is a minibus produced by Toyota Motor Corporation. It was introduced in 1969, with the second generation introduced in 1982, followed by the third generation in 1993. The third generation Coaster received a facelift in 2001, and again in 2007. The Toyota Coaster was introduced in 1969 as a 17-passenger minibus using the same running gear as the Toyota Dyna of the time. Since 1996, the Toyota Coaster is also sold under the name Hino Liesse II.

Stampede

This model of the Toyota Coaster is made by a relatively new brand, TINY, based out of Hong Kong. The brand aims to specialize in the vehicles in Hong Kong, and so far, have released a variety of different models, which include police, fire, ambulance and public transit models. As for the Coaster itself, the model is quite hefty- with much of it being made of die-cast- even the opening door! Detailing on the model itself is quite nice, with the tampoes applied quite cleanly. Although, there are some blemishes on the model, with some gaps between the lower portion of the vehicle (comprised on plastic) and the main die-cast body itself, and some minor paint issues. Being a fan of Hong Kong vehicles in general, this model found a perfect fit into my collection- along with a few others. Scale wise, this model falls in the 1/80 range- the side scale looks to be around 1/85, while the width works out to be around 1/80 (with room for error, of course).

Wikipedia

In August 1997, Toyota "Coaster Hybrid EV" minibus was launched, ahead of Prius. The Coaster Hybrid, according to Toyota, became its first production hybrid vehicle. Production of the Coaster Hybrid continued until 2007. The LPG Coaster, fueled by liquefied petroleum gas, was developed specifically for the Hong Kong market and its air pollution problems. The Coaster is common not only in Japan, Hong Kong, and Australia, but also in the developing world for minibus operators in Africa, the Middle East, and the Caribbean. It is widely used in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia, Panama, and Peru as public transportation. These buses are imported mainly from Asia and had to have the steering wheel moved to the left and the passenger door to the other side. The chassis of the Toyota Coaster is also used on the Salvador Caetano Optimo and sold in Western Europe.

Drive it like you stole it!
Nice model, I have to say those are not the wheels I would expect on this one given its a police model. These are more upscale vs the industrial look on the real vehicle.

 Neat looking police bus. I have been admiring the TINY emergency vehicle models that others have posted in the Apparatus Forum and hope to add a few to my collection one of these days. This model is very well detailed - first look made me think of Tomica.

Awesome, thanks for posting the model, Dean! :)

As zzziippyy pointed out, the wheels are a disadvantage on this model (and really throughout their lineup). This type of wheel are used throughout their whole lineup, from the fire truck to various police and civilian models. For the most part they are somewhat close to that of the real vehicles, in my opinion.

I've yet to receive my ordered copy of this bus. But it will be here soon enough, and then I can check out that cool opening door for myself! The wheels don't bother me, and they remind me of the wheels on the Road Champs "Shock Racers" with the adjustable suspensions from around the turn of the century.

You are very welcome, and I am pretty sure that you will be quite happy with the bus once you have it in hand! I also have two more variations of this bus- aiming to post those in the near future.
