Corgi's 1965 Aston Martin DB5 is the car for today.

Wikipedia.com

The Aston Martin DB5 is a luxury grand tourer that was made by Aston Martin and designed by the Italian coachbuilder Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera. Released in 1963, it was an evolution of the final series of DB4. The DB series was named honoring Sir David Brown (the head of Aston Martin from 1947 to 1972). Although not the first, the DB5 is famous for being the most recognized cinematic James Bond car, first appearing in Goldfinger (1964).

Wikipedia.com

The Aston Martin DB5 is one of the most famous cars in the world thanks to Oscar-winning special effects expert John Stears, who created the deadly silver-birch DB5 for use by James Bond in Goldfinger (1964). Although Ian Fleming had placed Bond in a DB Mark III in the novel, the DB5 was the company's latest model when the film was being made.

The car used in the film was the original DB5 prototype, with another standard car used for stunts. To promote the film, the two DB5s were showcased at the 1964 New York World's Fair, and it was dubbed "the most famous car in the world", and subsequently sales of the car rose.[12] In January 2006, one of these was auctioned in Arizona; the same car was originally bought in 1970 from the owner, Sir Anthony Bamford, by a Tennessee museum owner. A car, mainly used for promoting the movie, is now located in the Louwman Museum, Netherlands.[14] The first DB5 prototype used in Goldfinger with the chassis number DP/216/1 was later stripped of its weaponry and gadgetry by Aston Martin and then resold. It was then retrofitted by subsequent owners with nonoriginal weaponry. The Chassis DP/216/1 DB5 was stolen in 1997 from its last owner in Florida and is currently still missing.

I think Corgi orginally issued this model with the older style wheels. Believe this version is a later release likely from the 1970s or 1980s.

I think this was originally a Husky casting. The ejection mechanism is impressively designed for the era.

I cannot say with honesty that I like that roof ejection mechanism, jury out. But it is quite the feature for a car of that vintage.

 And away goes the bad guy! I remember having so much fun with this little car and he ejection seat mechanism - and surprisingly I never lost the little guy when he went flying through the open roof. Being a James Bond fan - these were a must to have in my collection! And Yes, it was first in the Husky line up and have included pictures of it and my Corgi Jr. version.

I have been wanting the larger scale--1:36? version with all the operating features. Problem is, I want the original from the '60s, and not the later versions with speed wheels. For cost, I may have to settle for the smaller one featured today in the COTD feature.

I like this one a lot, and it's been on my list.

I think there is a remodelled version of the original, larger, Corgi model around. Don't think it's on speed wheels. I don't collect these and so have no detailed knowledge. Try the Corgi website - soon as they are in the financial do do at the moment!

This is a great model - they did well to get the mechanism to both work and fit inside the car.

One problem though..... The tail says it's a DB6. Bond's car is a DB5

Nice choice. Chris

Yep. I noticed this as it looked more like the Rockets DB6 casting.
