![]() Impy Lone Star's (Flyers) 1960 Mercedes-Benz 220 SE is the car for today. ![]()
![]() ![]()
![]() Impy launched their small scale line in 1966. They featured knobby rubber tires, jeweled headlights and steerable front wheels plus opening doors, trunk and hood. Scale varied between 1/58 and 1/63, they offered unique European and American cars such as the '63 Imperial. With Mattel launching the Hot Wheels line in 1968 Impy relaunched their small scale line with the brand name 'Flyers' which featured low friction rubber tires designed to compete on gravity tracks. At this time they lost their jeweled headlights and some basic detailing. The Mercedes I have pictured would be from the post '68 time period. I managed to score this along with a handful of other Impy models in an auction lot on New Year's Day of this year. Other than a host of the '63 Imperials in my collection I have mainly for demo derby duty, these are my first proper Impy models. They look pretty decent for nearly 50 year old models. ![]()

This is a neat casting of an interesting old Mercedes-Benz. I've always loved all the opening parts on the older Impy models. |

A wonderful version of the Impy Mercedes Benz. I really like the blue color. I have never been a fan of the "speed wheels" that they switched to in an effort to compete with Hot Wheels. etc. I was also disappointed when they altered the castings and dropped the jeweled lights but at least they kept all the opening parts. When you look at all the opening parts, steerable wheels, etc. - it is hard to believe that these were issued in the mid '60's and could be bought at a number of stores in the US. |

Headlights and taillights both painted silver! Definitely looks better with the faceted lights, my favorite feature on any vintage diecast.

Nice choice. Here are two of mine. The purple one came from a Buffalo model train show - circa 1999. I have several of the white ones - two have the red interior, and one has a blue interior.![]() Lone Star / Road-Master Impy "Super Cars" (England) #17 Mercedes-Benz 220SEb (W111)
