 And then there are weeks like this one where one wants to vote for all of them. But nostalgia sets in once again and I return to the '60's and the day I got to bring home the blue version of the Gibbs Chevy pickup. Close second is Mr. Bond ejecting the bad guy into the wild blue wander. :D

What a great week of cars. Being a big James Bond fan and a big Aston Martin fan, that one should have been a shoe in for my vote. But the Impy Mercedes calls my name a little more since I have been looking for a clean example of it off an on for awhile. But alas, it didn't get my vote either. I may not collect construction equipment, but the Grip Zechin Mitsubishi Fuso really stands out as a great example of how nice some of the older and larger pieces can really be. It's detailed enough to fit in by today's standards but still has a wonderful vintage charm, looks like a nice hefty piece with lots of play value and the color combo and straight out of the box condition swayed me enough to vote for it this week.

The Mustang II is a Mustang too!
I 'wasted' my vote on the chipped but otherwise lovely Mercedes. What a beautiful color for a wonderful casting.

Support your local demo derby.

The first and last entries I scored at a large small scale toy auction on New Year's Day 2016 in Decatur, Illinois. All the others I found at various vendors at this year's Gateway Farm Toy Show held in St. Louis, Missouri with the EFSI, Gibbs, and Corgi all coming from the same dealer. Factoring in the two auction purchases that I won in larger lots, I effectively paid $5 or less for each individual item featured this week. I think this goes to show you can get good deals if you travel a bit and keep your eyes open. The knowledge I've gained about a wide variety of off brands here on the Garage certainly came in handy at auctions and various toy shows I've attended over the past few years.

I voted for the Grip Zechin. It has a cool retro vibe to it that showcased good quality diecast was made in the 1970s. It wouldn't be too far off to say this could still be sold as a new item today for $15 or more. It's always hard to pick/vote for one model when featuring a week's worth of COTD. I bought these for various reasons. I don't have many EFSI models in my collection. The Revell was $3 and one I've looked for in stock form for quite a while. The Impy was in a larger lot of other fairly nice Impy models. I spotted the Grip in another lot at the auction. A vendor had the Bigfoot from ERTL at a good price and I'd not seen the casting before in person. Gibbs was another company I lacked any of their castings plus I didn't' realize they existed. It's always good to keep an open eye. Never know when you'll spot a gem . . . or 7 of them. B)
