Today's car of the day is Maisto's 2002 Saturn Sky Concept.

The 2002 Saturn Sky Concept vehicle features a supercharged 2.2-liter, four-cylinder engine, mated to a five-speed manual transmission, that generates 180 horsepower. The headlights and taillights are powered by LED technology to give the Sky a distinctive lighting signature. The LED lamps are configured in cubes, and are smaller, lighter and require less voltage than conventional lamps.

While the production Saturn Sky was never replicated in small scale, Maisto made the concept version from 2002. Only three Saturn models have been made in small scale, with two of them being concept cars made by Maisto. This Sky and the CV1 crossover / minivan concept castings were released back when Maisto had a heavy focus on GM concept vehicles in their lineup. As opposed to the Opel-based, 2-seater production Sky, this concept looks more like a convertible version of the SC2 3-door coupe.

Inside, Saturn designers continued with upswept character line on the steering wheel center and the door panels. The instrumentation is mounted in the center of the console, instead of the traditional location behind the steering column. This allows for a smaller steering wheel and new storage opportunities on top of the instrument panel.

It seems strange that a few more Saturn's didn't turn up in small scale. I had the ones from Maisto at one time - liked the concept cars they did! This is a pretty nice little offering from Maisto.

I love it! I see more production Saturn Ion than what wound up to be the Sky.

New casting? Quick! Take it apart!
I enjoy Maisto concept cars. This concept looks nothing like the fine Sky produced by Saturn. Surely the Sky will go on to be a Sunday driver's favorite. All the ones I see are in excellent condition and still draws a big smile from me.
